Like countless Cal fans, PFF liked what it saw from the team on Saturday
In this series we try to make sense of Cal football based on a variety of advanced statistics. But there is a defining statistic from this game that will not be found in an ESPN boxscore, in CFBStats’ databases, or in PFF’s endless archive of obscure statistics: 4-0. The Cal class of 2025 will graduate having never seen a Big Game loss. They join the classes of 2006 and 2007 who enjoyed the same feat during Cal’s five-game winning streak from 2002-2006. Just as satisfying is that the Leland Stanford Junior University class of 2025 will graduate having never experienced the joy of winning the Axe, the ecstasy of rushing the field to celebrate with tens of thousands of other delirious fans, or the thrill of seeing and congratulating their Big Game heroes on campus for the remainder of the season. None of that will make it into our array of PFF statistics this week, but it was well worth highlighting before we run our usual classification task.
