Had I rated the game, I would've ended up in the Old Blues for the first time...
I wouldn't be able to give the offense anything above a 75 after scoring *3 points* the entire second half against this Colorado team.
Yes, they went vanilla. Firstly, they need to get in the habit of playing 4 quarters, given recent history. Secondly, Colorado is bad enough that we should be able to get at least 1 TD drive using even "vanilla" offense.
Still, a win is a win and I'll take it. I still favor the Beavs this week, but hoping for the upset.
Per Wilcox presser, the intent was to keep scoring in the second half ~ they didn't take the pedal off of the metal. So, what is concerning is the continued lack of consistency of the offense. As a fan it is frustrating to watch given the large number of "experienced" players on O. Hell if the OL doesn't have their technique down by now, will they ever get it?
Game plan for Oregon State should include sneaking a wheelbarrow full of $100 bills into Jim Michalczik‘s hotel room to get him to come back and coach our O line.
I quickly looked him up and his wiki (apparently incorrectly) states his latest Cal tenure as ending in 2013, which led me to think his last year was under Dykes.
Looking a little more closely now it seems his last Cal season was 2012, which makes sense.
Thanks for the astute observation as always Leland!
I just remember that Dykes totally cleaned house when he arrived, which was unfortunate because a lot of his guys didn't have P5 coaching experience and because we let Ron freakin' Gould go (to eventually go to Stanfurd).
They're worse, they're "technically correct"! Sometimes also known as "the best kind of correct" lol. Seems like his stint at Cal ended officially in January, after the 2012 season ended.
Well, no coach will ever say "yeah we decided to shut it down". Still, I agree with your overall point. Whether it's execution, playmaking, or both, this second half snoozefest on O needs to stop.
Hopefully we can beat OSU. I'm surprised I ended up in the Old Blue category, usually it is the VOR for me. The keys to victory include shutting down the running attack of the Beavs and getting them into 3rd and long situations. It will be nice to see if our defense has turned a corner and will play with the aggressiveness and confidence that it did against Colorado.
Exactly...this team has not shown it can execute well enough on a consistent basis to beat a good team....even v an absolutely inept CO team, they were inefficient, settling for 4 FGs.

Hope springs eternal! Go Bears!
My thoughts exactly. Even if we did "shut it down" on offense, we should've still been able to score more than 3 in the second half.

I did not know our Dykes-era O line coach is now at OSU! It's starting to all make sense... lol.
Michalczik is a Tedford-era coach (other than a brief stint with the Raiders).

@But wikipedia is never wrong!@

He had two stints at Cal under Tedford. Our OL coach in Dykes era was Yenser who somehow ended up a current 49ers assistant OL coach.

I'm not an O line coach or guru, I think you have me mistaken for Rugbear who played and coached the position.

54.6% chance to beat OSU seems pretty high to me.

Fear OSU could run them off the turf...
I've never ever ever ever ever been the most negative Cal fan before. Usually people think I'm a sunshine pumper.
Haha. First time for everything, including the Bears going 5-0 the rest of the way!
Run the table!
