I’m taking the bus up to Corvallis from Eugene on Saturday. It’s my first-ever trip there. Any recommendations?

"It was worth my time, however, to see a worried expression on Lincoln Riley's face as we closed the gap in the Fourth Quarter. Overall, yet another moral victory, which adds up, along with our many others, to a Mr. Congeniality Award, the drug we are given to accept the 60+ year decline and institutionally-manufactured mediocrity of our football program."

That was quite a depressing mouthful and I have to agree with it completely.

I wish it weren’t so, but thank you for noticing.

Yep. No moral victory here. USC was clearly playing down to Cal's level and doing just enough to insure the win all game long. That's why I went to bed with 7 minutes left and wasn't mad when I woke up and saw the 1-score game. If Cal shows up against Oregon State, which won't be in the mood to play down to anyone, then I may change my tune about a late season turnaround.

But they still need to roll up points for the CFP folks. I can’t believe they were slackin -not completely and not when we got close.

If what you are hinting at is true, then SC ain't sniffing the CFP. The previous week they had a truly uninspiring win over Arizona 45-37. Unlike the Cal game, that contest was very much in doubt until the waning minutes when Arizona committed a very stupid hit out of bounds to hand SC a touchdown. Of course they will be sky high for the UCLA game, so that should decide the issue.
