At Pac 12 media day, commissioner George Kliavkoff assumed a united front as he took the stage in Las Vegas, stating that a media deal was imminent and things were looking fine. Colorado doesn’t seem to be bought into that line of thought, as Pete Thamel of ESPN and Brett McMurphy of Action Network are reporting that Colorado has scheduled another board of regents meeting with talks about moving to the Big 12. Dennis Dodd of CBS has joined in on the fray, and with all of the titans of the CFB writers reporting this you know there’s a purpose and where there’s smoke there’s fire.
McMurphy notes that the Buffs haven’t officially applied for membership for the conference, but seeing how far this has come, it’s not hard to realize that this is a serious look. Thamel further reported that there is a Big 12 presidents meeting tonight regarding expansion, as it seems a lot of things are coming together in quick fashion.
Thamel talked with Colorado AD Rick George this week in Indianapolis and got this response on a move out of the Pac 12: “We are where we are. We've just got to figure it out."
Unquestionably this will make Pac 12 members feel uneasy as everything now turns into flux. To add kerosene on this fire, Jason Scheer of Wildcat Authority speculates that someone outside of the four corners is also looking at the Big 12. Oh boy.
Our new conference either in 2024 or 2029: Oregon St, Wash St, Cal, Stanford, Boise St, Tulane, SMU, San Diego St, Colorado St. and UNLV, with usually 1 berth in the playoff and maybe $12 million a year in media rights.
Wake me when something actually happens. Ive lost count of how many times this has been reported/tweeted/x’d
