Super Bowl Day in the Bay: Mission Radio Row
Lets get chaotic
As the Super Bowl gets closer, the stars come out. From Justin Jefferson to Shannon Sharpe to Ceedee Lamb, there were several people who came to play. From the Cal lens, there were Golden Bears also afoot. General Manager Ron Rivera and RB CJ Anderson each made appearances at the Moscone Center as the countdown rolls on for Super Bowl 60.
Write For California took some time Thursday to chat with Broncos Beat Reporter Zac Stevens about the promotion of Davis Webb to Denver’s Offensive Coordinator position and what exactly Webb’s impact has been once he traded a helmet for a headset.
“Right after the Broncos interviewed Davis for QB coach, they sent him back to the hotel to do normal due diligence,” said Stevens. “On his way back, Broncos HC Sean Payton said, what are we doing? Why are we letting this guy leave the building without a contract? They called the driver of the car to turn him around, brought him back and signed him. Payton knew then how special Webb was.” - Zac Stevens, Broncos Beat Reporter/DNVR
Stevens also noted that Webb has starred from the perspective of relationship building and that he has the support of the offensive personnel as a whole. The 31 year old Webb has a big time opportunity for a Super Bowl contender in the Mile High.
Rivera and Anderson went through a wave of radio row spots before WFC met up with former Pac 12 Network star host and current Big Ten Network host Ashley Adamson. I may or may not have laid down the gauntlet telling Adamson that she should make her triumphant return to California Memorial Stadium week one vs UCLA.
Friday
While Fernando Mendoza made his return to the Bay Area after graduating from UC Berkeley on Radio Row, WFC started the day in the Mission District at the Boys and Girls Club.
The NFL put together an event with the Walter Payton Man of the Year Nominees, including Derrick Henry, Baker Mayfield, Jeffrey Simmons and Garrett Bolles.
Events included cone drills with 1:1’s, flag football flag grab practice along with off the field exercises like playing Madden and painting custom cleats under the My Cause, My Cleats banner.
I spoke with Mayfield, Kenny Moore II and Cameron Dicker to get their thoughts on the human elements taking shape plus some of the Cal connections they have in their circle, including Mayfield’s thoughts on Cal getting Jordan Sommerville as Offensive Coordinator.
Once the festivities in the Mission concluded, it was time to head back downtown. As Pat Mcafee departed Moscone Center after his last show of the week, I inquired as to whether he’d be excited about another College GameDay in Berkeley, to which he replied, “Yes. Last time was awesome.”
As the weekend beckoned and everything got torn down inside Radio Row, it was time to head to the Super Bowl Experience.
Naturally, we then ran into the bundle of energy that is Cam Jordan.
One Jersey Mikes station later, we were fed and had Jordan’s answer for the Berkeley food spot he missed the most (stay tuned on social media).
Truthfully, it was a chaotic but thrilling week as apart of the Super Bowl media brigade. Myself, Rob Hwang and Jesse Miller-Gordon all went to various events full of celebrities and people with Cal connections and it was very rewarding.
Now it’s time for the big game. Lets see if we’ll head back to Moscone Center one last time Monday with Craig Woodson and Jaylinn Hawkins as Super Bowl champions.

Love hearing the Cal angle on all of this!
Great report! Thanks. Looking forward to Monday!
