Women's Basketball: Bears Ground the Boston College Eagles 73-58
Lulu Twidale scores career high 36 points in the victory
The Boston College Women’s Basketball Team is not having a good year. The Eagles are 4-17 overall, winless in conference play, and have lost 13 straight games. Today’s game could have been the ultimate trap game for Cal. The Bears were coming off Thursday’s triple overtime loss at Syracuse. The noon Boston time/9am Pacific time tipoff on the second half of a long road trip could play havoc with a team’s energy level. Cal avoided the trap; The Bears raced out to a 13-0 lead in the first five minutes and won the game in dominant fashion.
Lulu Twidale scored eight points in Cal’s early outburst and collected five assists in the opening period to lead the Bears. Boston College was able to shrink the lead to four on two separate occasions in the second period. Mjracle Sheppard and Lulu Twidale answered with baskets to extend the lead. Cal lead by seven, 30-23 at the half.
Naya Ujukwu and Lulu Twidale scored the first six points of the third period to push the lead to thirteen, and Cal was never seriously threatened the rest of the way.
On Thursday, Twidale scored 16 points and added 12 assists in 53 minutes of playing time. Today, Twidale scored 36 points on 18 shots. Twidale connected on 8-of-15 from 3-point range. She also added 9 assists and 2 steals in a complete game. Gisella Maul added 17 points and 9 rebounds.
At the end of the first quarter, BC’s Athena Tomlinson charged at full speed into Sakima Walker as Tomlinson was driving towards the basket. The player’s head collided, and both were down on the floor for several minutes. While Tomlinson did return to the game later, Walker was taken to the locker room and did not log any more playing time.
Cal has a full week off before hosting Stanford next Sunday at 3pm in Haas Pavilion.

Hope Sakima is alright. But proud of the team's dominant performance.
Great. GO BEARS!
