I agree that maybe basketball this year is something we can look forward to. The season has really creeped up on us and here we are, I suppose because of Covid distraction and also the historically late football season. Bradley almost singlehandedly kept us in a number of games last year. With a stronger supporting cast hopefully we can finish north of .500.
He’s also gotta make his free throws otherwise he can’t be counted on in crunch time, tho Foreman for O and Brown subbing in only for D under a minute could be the option. Makale hits its at an 85% clip.
Of course not since NCAA operate in some opaque way, but maybe that's for the better as Hyder will have 3 more years of eligibility after this potentially silly year. Under normal circumstances, Hyder would not have been eligible but the NCAA waived that one-year waiting rule for so many guys due to the pandemic. My wild guess on the reason for the denial might be that his home town of San Bernardino is closer to Fresno State (his old school) than Cal (new school).
The NCAA uses a complex but unpublished formula that compares the number of Nobel Prizes for a University with the ease of transfers. They are inversely proportional in the formula. With us getting two more Nobels, it just shut the door on Hyder. It's why Kansas State never has any trouble. It's a legacy impact from decades ago, and was an attempt to create athletic parity in lieu of academic parity.
While I in no way disagree that the NCAA is a stupid and corrupt organization, I also think that the Cal Athletic Department is almost certainly doing something wrong when it comes to filing waiver applications on behalf of their student athletes. Jarred Hyder is the ONLY denial I have been able to find...a Gonzaga transfer from UF (previously Ontario, CAN) was just granted a waiver and he didn’t even plan on applying for one.
Cal is most likely finding ways to screw up the process because Hyders denial is inexplicable. And rather costly, given our lack of depth at the point.
Now we will be playing Oregon State in the opener. 4pm on Wednesday, Pac-12 Network

Tomorrow's game against Colorado State has been canceled due to Covid amongst CSU. Bears searching for an opponent....

Also, Joel Brown is very quick but needs to make his lay-ups and get a jumper.

Go Bears!!
