I'm way impressed with Musgrave's ability to get this commitment. Martin could EASILY have waited a long time to see what other offers come in, check out other programs, etc. (and I realize we need to still hold on to him.....). Great stuff. 100% of this class is 4*.......for now..... : )

It is nearly impossible to scout Justyn from his sophomore year tape as a back-up. So it's all glimpses and potential. He did have very good reputation on the 7 and 7 circuits, but I haven't seen tape from 7s. He does have elite arm strength for his age, mobility for his height, and flashes good accuracy when his feet are set. But much of his tape is not high quality because his offensive line was so bad at pass blocking, leading to Martin needing to improvise. Mobile enough to extend plays, but not mobile enough to be dual-threat. Almost no tape of him going through progressions (understandable given he was a sophomore). Best arm strength I've seen in a dog's age. Having a strong enough arm means that the two wide-set receivers are now threats again, which we have sorely missed since Davis Webb.

How are there 222 better QB's in this class if he is rated 4*? Shouldn't he be at least top 50 or so?

Just 222 players rated higher; he's 15th in the QB rankings and 8th in pro-style specifically.

And remember, he has zero film of him as a starter.

Oh thanks. Player not QB makes sense.

Nice, a great prospect at the QB position plus elusiveness I would guess...

Best raw arm talent Cal has seen in years. But beyond his athletic abilities, he's a really good kid. It is interesting that while Cal has performed well on defense ~ during the Wilcox era ~ that more blue chips have been recruited on the offensive side of the ball than defense. Two positions of need already filled for this class at NG & QB, that is one helleva start. Go Bears!!

I had to double-check his highlights were him playing with the varsity team, because he looks huge and long compared to everyone else. Its crazy to think he was only a sophomore then, it will be interesting to see his athletic abilities once he starts fill out.

Winslow was actually his last name. Tuned in to the 1967 Rose Bowl (first Rose Bowl I ever watched) just in time to see him throw an incomplete pass on a late two-point conversion vs. Purdue, resulting in a 14-13 defeat.

The more I thought about it, it struck me the conversion attempt failed as a result of an interception, not an incompletion, and after looking it up that was the case.

The great USC-Wisconsin Rose Bowl from 1963 occurred before Winslow had entered the school. Fertig was a sophomore that season, but was the team's third-string quarterback, behind Pete Beathard and Bill Nelson. Doubt he even played in that game unless perhaps he was the holder of place kicks.
