Here’s the most Cal thing ever! My adopted team is Navy because my son was the punter for the past three years, graduating last spring. I’m writing this from Chattanooga, TN helping him move to his first assignment. Navy went 11-2 last year, so I’ll also be rooting for a powerful winning progr...... (play sound of phonograph needle scraped across a record’s grooves....). They lost 55-3(!) to BYU last night’s season opener! But like a true, thick-skinned Cal fan, I’ll endure the season (and likely many others in the years to come) because that’s what we do. Go Bears, AND go Midshipmen!!!

I haven't gotten into following college football yet. If you have any interest in golf, you can follow Cal via Collin Morikawa, who won the PGA Championship several weeks ago and did fairly well in the FedEx Cup this past week end. His yardage notebook (carried in his back pocket) has the script Cal on the cover. Due to rescheduling, the U.S. Open and the Masters are yet to be played.

I’ll probably cheer for BYU because I’m a member of the church, but I was thinking, the Ole Miss fans were pretty cool to us when we played them. I could see cheering for them.

They're more successful and the wrong colors but I often find myself rooting for Wisconsin. An excellent public school with some great defense and the frequent opportunity to beat Harbaugh and Fitzgerald.

I haven't figured out what team the pictured "MUGC" is. Is that a possibility?

Great post and really helpful. I hadn't even considered this but after reading... UVa as well. I can't root for TCU and while I want to root for SMU (re: Dykes), that may be hard as well!

I'll go with WVU, just for the uniforms. But the truth is I'll probably lose interest after 20 minutes or so.

Aside from that, I am looking forward to one game in particular: the Egg Bowl... Mike Leach against Lane Kiffin.
