I remember that Jedd Fisch game where he made Devon Modster pretty serviceable for one game against us and they eeked out a win that cost us bowl eligibility. There were Baldwin-OSU rumors that night too and was thinking Fisch might be a good replacement.
I'd say this is a competent hire. I know Belichick assistants flame out like a USC QB in the NFL, but if he's even a half-decent playcaller he can squeak out some upsets and get the program back to non-embarrassing levels.
Not surprised by the hire but I think he'd be a mediocre one. Fisch has been an assistant during the most recent Pat's season where the QBs are near the bottom of the NFL in any stat + efficiency metric. On the other hand, he was an offensive assistant under McVay with the Rams for 2018-19.
His single 2017 season as UCLA's OC benefited from having Josh Rosen at QB, furthermore, that season was the only one he coached in the Pac-12 (Minnesota, Miami, and Michigan) being the other CFB spots.

CFB is a perfect 10 for 10 in hiring white head coaches during this cycle. This sport is getting harder and harder to watch.

I agree, but let's not forget that we've played against Colin Kaepernick more recently than beaten the Arizona Wildcats in football.
Five consecutive losses that were each painful in their own way...
There’s a Fisch and Chip joke here for when they play UCLA.
Don’t forget Lake.
Great for us! Bad for Arizona!
That remains to be seen. We haven’t beaten Arizona in a long time.
