Georgia Tech at 7 Georgia (Georgia wins 44-42 in 8OT)
TD_24 - Absolutely gutted for Georgia Tech and their fans, they had that one right in their grasp and for reasons I will not go into, came out on the wrong side. The Yellow Jackets have some absolute warriors that I'd never want the smoke with. They are a program on the rise.
Bk97 - Is ACC After Dark a thing yet? Because I feel like every year there's a late-season game featuring an ACC team that goes to 5+ OTs.
Christopher H - You just needed to keep running the ball, GT! Was really hoping for the chaos of a GT win here.
Rob Hwang - Best game of the week. Was incredible to watch an 8OT where more than half the OTs were just incomplete passes.
Stanford at San Jose State (San Jose State wins 34-31)
TD_24 - lol. What this does do is award San Jose State as the best FBS team in California award. I do wish Cal could play them in a bowl game.
Bk97 - Two weeks in a row with blown double-digit, fourth-quarter leads to Bay Area teams. Troy Taylor is the ultimate saboteur.
Christopher H - Double agent Troy Taylor continues to wreak havoc at Stanford.
6 Miami at Syracuse (Syracuse wins 42-38)
TD_24 - Game of the week. This game was so fun to watch instead of Cal getting blown out. The Carrier Dome was on fire, Fran Brown has inspired the fanbase, and Kyle McCord got some poetic justice.
Bk97 - Once again Miami falls short in another ridiculous shootout during conference play. With some semblance of a defense, this Miami team would have been incredible this year.
Christopher H - I kept saying, "don't worry, the refs will fix this." The refs did not ultimately fix this for Miami. Their luck has run out, and I'm guessing they'll be left out of the playoffs in favor of a 3-loss SEC team (even if the "quality" SEC wins are just other ranked SEC teams, while the SEC lost most of their OOC matchups and lack any real indication of conference supremacy this year outside the name brand).
15 South Carolina at 21 Clemson (Clemson loses 14-17)
TD_24 - South Carolina might be the hottest team in the nation now. Dabo better pay Fran Brown for the help he and Mario Cristobal gave here
Bk97 - If Clemson had that much trouble against the mobility of USC QB Sellers (did you see that go-ahead TD scramble?!), they're going to get annihilated by SMU QB Kevin Jennings.
Christopher H - Like Georgia Tech, the ACC is making it too easy for the CFP committee to shoehorn additional SEC teams into the playoffs.
Louisville at Kentucky (Louisville wins 41-14)
TD_24 - Curiously, Kentucky recently owned this matchup so I bet the Louisville alums are feeling good. Isaac Brown is him.
Christopher H - Other than losing to Stanford, Louisville is a quality team, but people are glossing over them when comparing records between playoff hopefuls.
Duke at Wake Forest (Duke wins 23-17)
TD_24 - The most non hail mary, hail mary finish ever. Just your regular ol play and somehow Manny Diaz has Duke at 9-3 (surely I'm not jealous nope never that)
Christopher H - Duke is just a team that wins the close games this year.
Pitt at Boston College (Boston College wins 34-23)
TD_24 - Pitt has had a severe fall from grace ever since Eli Holstein got injured.
Christopher H - Called it.
NC State at UNC (NC State wins 35-30)
TD_24 - Mack Brown makes NC State bowl eligible and avoids his Berkeley comeuppance in the same week, he can't keep getting away with it!!!!!
Christopher H - Not really surprised by anything here other than NCSU WR Kevin Concepcion putting his name in the transfer portal after this one.
Florida at FSU (FSU loses 11-31)
TD_24 - Justin Wilcox I BEG you to stop making all sorts of terrible history.
Christopher H - No surprise here either. FSU caps off the worst season since 1973, but hey, at least they beat an FBS opponent this year.
Virginia at Virginia Tech (Virginia Tech wins 37-17)
TD_24 - VT pulled the 2023 Cal and didn't realize the best QB on the roster was the third string all along.
Christopher H - Didn't see this one, but had no idea what to expect in a battle of backup QBs.
Any other thoughts on the games of the week?
TD_24 - The ACC media ballot I filled out felt longer than the final paper I wrote for my bachelors degree.
Christopher H - Ohio State and Michigan got the bulk of the media coverage for it, but there was an epidemic in flag planting incidents in the ACC (North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina)... didn't Baker Mayfield play in the Big 12? Where did all this flag stuff come from?
Wow. All the commenters blame the head coach for the loss when their team loses. But usually, it's because the winning team has better talent and is just plain a better team.
The web is definitely abuzz about the lack of a targeting call against Georgia.
