Looked like we skipped warmups. Not to say that we would win, but there was a play maybe 5 mins before half where DJ Campbell got a pass for a wide open three at the top of the key. Instead of taking it, he swung it to Rytus, who was also open, but air balled it. I knew we were dust at that moment even though we were keeping it close.
This team is a bit of an enigma. We should be better based on the players career stats coming into this season. We struggle to create good looks and can't fiinish when we get them. I like their grit but perhaps one of the hardest Cal teams to watch in recent memory. I keep tuning in because I know they can do better....
Just two years ago, when the Fox era hit its nadir, Louisville went 4-32. They won just 8 games last year. They are currently 24-6 and have their most conference wins (17) in the program's history. That's all to say that 1) change can come quickly and 2) Madsen, you're on watch.
I still have faith in Madsen, but there are clear areas from the past couple of seasons that they need to seriously improve in if this team is going to be at all competitive in the ACC.
And they need P5 caliber guards and a legit ACC big.
I like Madsen’s energy, but I don’t know what type of identity he wants for his program. Are we building a free flowing offensive team that will be chucking threes? Is it a hard nosed defensive team? By this point you’d like to see the direction it is pointing, but it seems like we’re kind of searching.
Not sure I've ever seen more Cal airballs in a game. Wonder what it was there that really hurt our shot taking/looks?
