On a different, but related subject....

From Scott Ostler in today's SF Chronicle:

"Poet Laureate Award, to former Cal quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Upon entering the transfer portal and opting out of Cal’s bowl game, Mendoza delivered a lovely, flowery thank-you message to Cal, via social media. Sincere, no doubt, but here’s a word of advice to all you collegiate portal travelers: When you skip town, skip the poetry. The teammates and fans you leave behind don’t want to hear it."

Ever since the Takers, Cal has been a quasi DB-U, outside of LSU of course. Recently, Cal does not have trouble recruiting secondaries—I’m glad this trend seems to continue.

I was watching the ND beef up front and was a thing art. Run blocking, know your assignment, low pad level, one step explosion, drive, destroy the man in front of you.

True, but I think we have some decent guys that just need to be coached up better. But better talent is always desirable.

We seem to have no issue attracting DBs, DLs, RBs and WRs. Now if we can just get QBs and OLs.

Our defense is known to put guys in the NFL, our offense not so much. Hopefully that starts changing with the new staff.

We have put some QBs and running backs in the NFL. Technically Garbers went to the NFL. Nando would have.
