Cal adds former 4* DB out of LSU in Ryan Yaites
Hyper athletic DB from Denton, TX via LSU further bolsters the DB room
Huge addition to the Cal safety rotation. He bring some SEC experience from the LSU backfield where he played second string snaps in 9 of their 13 games recording 9 tackles but no INTs or PBUs.

Cal was active in recruiting him out of HS hard last year and it seems that the relationship the DB Coaches Watson and Brown paid off with Yaites joining us in this transfer portal window.
As a high school student he had offers from: Arizona, Auburn, Maryland, Missouri, ND, Oklahoma, Ok State, Ole Miss, Oregon, SMU, Texas, and USC. Per 247 he was ranked as the 245th overall prospect, 21st safety prospect, and 45th prospect out of Texas.
Just judging from his athletic profile as a high school junior at Denton, TX (PR of 21.61 in the 200M) we know we’re getting an athlete of the same level as Daniel Scott and Ashtyn Davis. Something very desirable with the way Cal has used their safeties overall.
The safety spot next to Woodson remains an open competition with Ja’ir Smith, Miles Williams, and Isaiah Crosby already in the room with a leg up with their experience in the scheme.
Fun fact: with coming to Cal he reunites with his high school teammate Josiah Martin who also attended Guyer HS in Denton, Texas!
Totally necessary, there is so much speed in this conference. They will need these DB's. Great pick up. If the DT get pressure on the QB, lots of picks.
Wow!
