Let’s give credit where credit is due. These new set of positional coaches are doing a bang up job. I went to Punahou high school and I can tell u without doubt that these players from Hawaii are looking for a safe home on the “mainland” to pursue their athletic dreams. The “mainland” is an unknown to these young men. When I played baseball at Punahoe it was known that there was a “pipeline” to Stanford. I chose Cal but this “pipeline” concept is very real.
Wondering how much if any of this is Ron Rivera. A lot of the recently committed recruits have had offers from big-time schools. That seems to be a departure from the last few years recruits.
Cal just hired Rivera and committed to the $20.5M needed annually from the house settlement. I think we showed them the stability we needed to show them, especially being in the ACC now with Gameday and the expansion of the playoffs providing us a real shot at relevance.
And specifically with the last rush of recruits, I think we did a great job of hiring staff with strong ties to Hawaiian talent.
Somebody better make a sand pit at Memorial and bury the Kalua pig...cause these big boys gonna need lots of food to eat.
Just want to thank all these kids for choosing Cal. The calculus is different now with the portal, but I can honestly say that Cal was one of the best decisions I ever made. Thankful to have you all in the family. Go Bears.
Stanfurdstinks: "Cal was one of the best decisions I ever made." Truer words have never been spoken! I just said the same thing to one of my students who will be transfering to Cal in the fall. He had to decide between Cal and FUCLA and he told me, "Professor, I visited both campuses and the vibe in Berkeley is just more exciting than in Westwood. The students and faculty are just EXCITED to be there!" It sounds like our new recruits are starting to feel the same way! GO BEARS, FOREVER!!!!!

I think some of this is inertia with the Poly kids, rather than Rivera per se.

Rivals had us as the 17th ranked class before we announced our last two commits. Wonder where we are now?
DL and OL? Interesting!
