California sweeps No. 14 in the nation Stanford in a three-game series at Sunken Diamond for the first time in program history to improve to 5-4 in the ACC.
According to Warren Nolan's RPI calculation, Cal is now up to No.59 after sweeping Stanford (still No.21 via RPI). Of course, there is still a long way to go for the Bears to return to the postseason, but that's more plausible after this past weekend. Cal has to maintain a winning record (currently 4-2) against Q1 opponents and improve their record (6-5) against Q4 opponents.
I am enjoying getting to know this iteration of Cal baseball. A wonderfully talented middle infield, some great pop from the catcher position, and a 3B in Campbell who has been a pleasant surprise in the Bears’ batting renaissance. One issue I must complain about is the very poor video coverage of the west coast ACC games by ACC Network. The commentary is excellent by our local guys, and they deserve way better than just a behind the plate camera angle that half the time is focused on the netting behind home plate.
A great weekend, yes. The Bears’ bats are coming alive in crucial situations. I had the privilege to witness their rousing, clutch win in S. F. yesterday. Five consecutive wins! I would like to encourage everyone to get down to The Stu (Evans Diamond) for the next homestand. The program coach Neu has built deserves our support. Besides, it’s a great venue to watch quality baseball, close up. Go Bears.

Our first ACC series win being against Furd is a funny but welcome thing!
