Cal Baseball: SS PJ Moutzouridis has Entered the Transfer Portal
Cal's elite middle infield duo have now both entered the portal, as Sophomore PJ Moutzouridis follows Jarren Advincula out of Berkeley. (via Kendall Rogers & Peter Flaherty III on X)
Cal’s 2024 first-team All-Pac-12 and 2025 All-ACC Championship team shortstop PJ Moutzouridis has entered the transfer portal after two seasons in Berkeley. The 6-1 middle infielder has played and started in all 110 games at Cal in two seasons, hitting .284 in that span with 9 home runs and 73 RBIs.
Moutzouridis is the 13th Golden Bear to enter the transfer portal (including the graduating seniors with eligibility remaining), and his loss will be felt similarly to his double-play partner, Jarren Advincula, who entered the portal on Monday, June 9th.
Moutzouridis is entering his Junior year after taking a step back offensively, while his defensive numbers improved from his freshman season. The Valley Christian High School alumnus had a .944 fielding percentage with a career-long 11-game errorless streak from March 8-24. He also hit well towards the end of the season after regressing to a .270 AVG for the year, with a late-season six-game hit streak from May 11th to 21st, where he posted a .556 AVG, went 10-18, and scored 6 runs with 4 RBIs.
Cal currently has three incoming shortstops/middle INF from the high school class of 2025, two of whom have PerfectGame scores of 9/10 (Potential top 10 round pick and/or highest level college prospects) (Jett Kenady, Carlsbad, CA & Nikko Taylor, Berkeley CA) to try and backfill these drastic losses to the program.

SEC is printing money to steal the best athletes…..in football, basketball and baseball. I guess the people there have nothing else to do except college sports. Players are gladly taking the money…..why not when most will never make money in MLB, NBA or NFL. It’s a sad state of affairs in college sports…..the courts and the “adults” have destroyed any hint of amateurism.
Not surprising. BTW I heard Advincula visited Tennessee. SEC money awaits, apparently. It’s unfortunate Legends hasn’t been more successful with baseball. However, for 2026 maybe Elijah Clayton will step into the SS spot and thrive.
