Cal basketball beats Dartmouth 61-55, improves to 7-5 on the season.
Cal men’s basketball improved to 7-5 on the season as they beat Dartmouth 61-55 from the Ivy League. Cal has won five of its last six games and has not lost at home since the season-opener against UC San Diego.
Final stats below.
Jordan Shepherd led the scoring for Cal with 18 points. Andre Kelly notched another double-double. Grant Anticevich put up a career-high 15 rebounds. But the story was again Cal’s defense, holding Dartmouth to 34% shooting, 6-23 from three-point land and 17 missed layups.
For the first time since Cuonzo Martin was head coach (2017), Cal men's basketball has a winning record on New Year's Eve. Although 7-5 is hardly a monumental success, it does represent some incremental improvement for the Bears under Mark Fox.
Can it translate to 2022? Fox is 11-29 at Cal vs. Pac-12 in conference regular season play.
Some news from Mark Fox in press availability: Sophomore Monty Bowser and junior D.J. Thorpe are expected to redshirt due to slow injury recovery.
Cal also debuted some new white uniforms.
Cal won its previous game the week before finals against Santa Clara. Much of this is coming off the back of Andre Kelly, who is averaging 15 points, 9 rebounds, 65% field goal shooting and 85% free throw shooting so far this year. Kelly and the Cal defense locked down Santa Clara in the second half.
