The scout comments about him seem a little off to me but I have casually watched all season and not specifically scouted him for the NBA.

1. The high usage rate wasn’t by design - Askew was supposed to be our starting point guard - I don’t think Tyson on a healthy team takes up 30 percent of our possessions. He’s a good not great ball handler. He’s a good not great ball passer. But he was the best remaining player for a lot of roles on our team and he stepped up to make it happen.

2. Maybe he’s got the Draymond Green versatility gene in that he can do many jobs on a basketball floor but Draymond is a defensive genius and a plus plus point forward - even at Michigan State this was pretty apparent. Jaylon can do all those things but I don’t think at Draymond’s skill level. But then again Draymond ended up as a second round pick - Tyson is way more athletic and a much better scorer - but I think a guy like a Jae’sean Tate or Kata Bates-Diop

Must've been a scout for the Kings or Hornets or something. That scout has no idea what they're talking about.

Well should Tyson go in the first round, MM can go to recruits and tell them "Come to Cal, I'll prepare you for the NBA...perhaps even the 1st round." Not a bad sales pitch, eh?

I realized hiring head coaches with initials MM is the key to success.

That’s a good one!!

I obviously want him to stay. I think with another year and maintaining his health, he could be a lottery pick (depending on what next year's draft looks like).

But if he projects as a 1st rounder, he probably needs to jump. Especially since the NBA now has the G League to help with development where he wouldn't have to play out of position either. And we don't know what the team will look like next year (even though I trust Madsen to build well).

But man is he talented! And he did all this while having to so often run point and absorb so much defensive attention.

If he has a shot at the first round that's definitely the right path. If not maybe he will return for another season.

Hopefully we can target most of our new recruits that have 2+ years to play.

Need to have a diverse group where one guy leaving is less of an impact.

Him staying or leaving now (he can’t pass this opportunity up) is the difference between NIT for sure and a shot at the NCAA or another year to rebuild

I dunno, Dave. I think it all depends on who they add from the portal, and the roster status/improvement of guys like Celestine, Newell, Brown, Curtis, Okafor, & Larson. What if Jeremiah Wilkinson can help right outta the chute, they add Jordan Pope, replace KK with a solid wing defender and mix in a couple of bigs that defend the post better than this team? Just think it’s way too soon to say we are or are not a Tourney team. The path to the Dance now in the ACC is a lot clearer: avoid bad losses, win 2x as many games as losses in the non-con and get to .500 in conference play…bang, you’re in the mix. THAT was rarely true for the Pac 12 because of the East Coast bias.

Tyson was great, and he took over a lot, but there was also a lot of 1-on-2 ball with him, which was of course necessary…but there are other similar players out there. Just gotta find them…

Selfishly, I want him to stay as he would be a great player to build next year's team around. However, being a first round NBA draft pick is a life-changing opportunity and I hope he will see his dream come true.

This years draft is full of guys like Tyson - a bunch of dudes who will probably have decent careers in the league but no real projected franchise changing players. Next year will have a bunch of projected real difference makers - if he’s getting first round grades it behooves him to go this year
