It seems like the talent on the team is getting increased recognition this season. Our secondary, linebackers, and D-line all look to be improved. O is a huge crapshoot and the prognosticators reflect this by naming Plummer only the 11th-best QB in the league. If he plays down to this level the Cal braintrust will probably have to give Millner a shot, but we all know they are reticent of backups getting any playing time which hamstrung us in the Arizona game and literally caused Cal to miss a bowl opportunity. Our receiving corps is a giant question mark, whilst the running backs are capable but we lack elite speed. There is no Jahvid Best out there.
Phil Steele has Cal finishing near the bottom of the North, ahead of only Washington State. This, despite decisive victories last season over Oregon State and Stanford. I think the sages are looking at Wilcox' pretty woeful 15-25 conference record and wondering what will change with so many new faces on the offense.
If Plummer shows some elusiveness against what is sure to be a weekly strategy to pressure and rattle him, Cal has a chance to move up and beat expectations.
I would love to see the offense develop an identity. I remember the 1990 season when HC Bruce Snyder said in pre-season his offense was going to run the ball down everyone's throats. Bruce was coming off three straight losing campaigns and had a new starting quarterback that was running down the field to cover kickoffs in the previous season. That 90 Cal team had not one, but two, running backs rush for 1,000 yards. They also broke in a new wide receiver named Sean Dawkins who pretty quickly showed he was NFL ready. Just total fun to watch stuff that put butts in the seats. Something like that.
I am not up on players' talents and that's why I am on this site to learn from you and the others. But after all of the hoopla surrounding realignment, I am so ready for some actual games. Everyone's still gotta play them! When does fall camp begin?!?
By the end of the season (assuming he is healthy) Brett Johnson will be on the first team......

I agree. Let the games begin! My only fear is that the C of B gets COVID crazy again.
