Christopher, TD_24 and team, did you notice in the bowl game how little Mendoza looked at #3? To my eye there were 3-4 plays (a 4th and 1 in particular) #3 looked locked up 1-on-1 and didn't get to beat the CB! Would love your analytics.

He did not create much space.

Wilcox is lucky Ott is returning. If he wasn’t I would have put Wilcox in the portal.Wilcox is one step forward and two back.

I wish that anyone who’s going to declare had to do it on a single designated day. Tear the whole bandage off at once. This bit by bit stuff is painful and nerve-wracking.

I wish the portalling period was AFTER bowl season so transfers could play w their teams, then bail, and yes, also all on one day….

BBB (bring bhaghani back)!

Entering the portal doesn't necessarily mean he's gone, does it? Is there a potential to up the NIL ante? Losing our WR1 in successive years is not a recipe for success.

Let's get back Sturdivant his productivity went down at UCLA - come back please! ;-) .. I think Hunter is good but Sturdivant was better. I wouldn't surprised to see Hunter's numbers go down where he ends up. I agree with other we need to hit the portal hard WR, O-Line, and even get another QB too. GO BEARS!

Sturdivant's game is flashier because he runs fast and jumps high, but Hunter has always been WR 1 between the two of them.

Justbear's avatar

Hunter had 200 more yards than JMike in 2022, so he was clearly #1 WR, but it's true JMike was flashier and felt like a #1 WR.

mrjpark's avatar

I'm now wondering if that's why he left, because he thought he could be the #1 there and knew he wouldn't be here.

PawlOski's avatar

I feel like Hunter is the "better" player given his productivity, which at he end of the day is what it's all about. But Sturdivant probably had/has the higher ceiling based on his physical tools. I didn't watch a lot of fUCLA this year, so I can't say whether it was a Sturdivant issue or a system issue or both but I suspect Sturdivant would have contributed greatly to this Cal offense this year if he had returned.

Justbear's avatar

It would have been amazing if Sturdivant was our #2 WR this year and Grizzel was #3 instead of Davis/Young/Anderson as they were almost non-existent.

The lord giveth and he taketh back.

WOW!!! SO, NOW ITS HUNTER. IF I HAD TO LIGHT A CANDLE FOR EVERY CAL PLAYER DECIDING TO LEAVE I'D END UP WITH MY HOUSE BURNING DOWN!! GERBEAR

SGBear's avatar

If you had a candle every time a Cal football player graduated, you'd have a candle 84% of the time. He walked on Senior Day. I wish him well.

I pringled audibly at this. The pain is too real, Gerbear.

Look around at literally any/every program. This is just the way it looks.

WilderThanGene's avatar

Bummer! Who else is gonna fill the critical role of catching an undeveloped screen pass that has no chance of success, and eeking out a 1 to 4 yard gain???

Wish him the best though. Thought he was one of the true bears.. wondering/hope he graduated?

I love Jeremiah and will always remember him fondly, but this makes a ton of sense for him, and isn't the worst for us. Particularly because WRs are the position that is deepest and most easily "gettable" in the portal.

PawlOski's avatar

I hope you're right!

And Richardson from Tufts announced yesterday.

Big (though not devastating) loss. Probably the biggest loss along with KEO so far.

BrooklynBear's avatar

It's a big loss and understandable. He was bracketed a lot this year and had relatively few targets. We have not one roster WR that can consistently get open in one-on-one!
