Avi. Thanks for helping keep JW accountable (since he does not do it himself obviously). What tools do we have as alums? Petitions? Letters? Bringing Christ into the firing line? How can we effectuate real change and accountability for those involved. Reputaional loss in absolut and relative terms vs our other peers ucla, usc...Not to mention what happens to reveune trajectory when the Pac 12 implodes...The huge debt of the stadium alone is an existential threat imo. This alone requires a competent team to continue to climb out of the hole without overburdening the public. These are all business responsibilities that require competent leadership up and down. We need to do something here folks. Chancellor Christ WAKE UP.
I got off the cross of blue and gold yesterday finally and back to equanimity more or less. Ready to "enjoy" the rest of the season with no irons in the fire.
Always cathartic to see the reactions in the various blogs of the "greater teams'" fans having histrionic meltdowns for seasons we would covet. Always brings perspective, soberness to my lot in fandom so readily thrown out the window following defeats and another head shaking season.
My girlfriend, who is a Ducks fan (her son is in school there) asked why don't I pick another team to root for..... I told her you don't get to choose the team you grew up with and love. Well, I don't, anyway. Plenty of people like the Cowboys, NDame, and the Yankees with no connection other than they want to root for a winning team. I want to root for a winning team, too; I just want it to be Cal.
I see ASU hired U of O's OC as their HC; that was MY call for Cal if they cut Wilcox loose. I seriously need to care less about how the Bears do; not sure it's good for my outlook (spoiler alert: next August I'll be on this board stating how optimistic I am for the season......realizing we just need "a couple key pieces of the puzzle" to be a winning team.....).
Agreed, Can't really get out of Cal fandom as it is in the DNA and reminds me too much of my happy days in Berkeley. Admittedly it would be easier to root for a winner, but then there would be no connectivity.
WANT A BETTER SEASON???? JUST CHANGE THE UNIFORMS TO DARK BLUE HELMITS WITH A GOLD PLATED 'C' AND DARK BLUE JERSEYS WITH GOLD NUMERALS ON BACK AND NO NAMES, NO OTHER MARKING ON THESES JERSEYS. JUST LET THEM SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. DRESS WILCOX IN WHITE WITH BLACK STRIPES TO CONFUSE THE OFFICIALS! GERBEAR
Cal has given up on sports as an institution. No other program would retain Wilcox after 4-8 in his 6th season (with little previous success), nor would retain Fox after the start this season.
Look at men’s basketball and Mark Fox for what to expect going forward with football and Wilcox. A losing coach doesn’t just change his ways and become a winner, they just find new ways to lose.
Wilcox is G5 HC material and that is exactly what Cal will be in 2025 once the Pac12 collapses and we move to the MWC.
This game was frustrating, but the team was competitive. They even had a lead for once. Two years in a row have lost to the worst team in the PAC, with the Arizona 21 debacle and the Bison 22 snafu, and that's hugely problematic. You just have to be able to consistently beat teams that you should be better than. Everything hinges on a slam dunk OC hire, and if I'm Wilcox, I'm giving up some of my compensation to be able to attract someone good.
5 and 6 Star recruits are abandoning the likes of Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia to enroll at Cal so they can get the best education possible during their formative years.
Before the season started I said I was almost already looking ahead to 2023. O-Line depth concerned me and I was more interested in Milner starting next year than Plummer right now.
There's some small satisfaction in calling things correctly, but I'd much rather have been proven wrong.
We need to get competent in the trenches. Plenty of OC’s can have even a modicum of success in Berkeley, provided the O (& D) lines can simply be average.
Tulane won 10 this year, Oregon State most likely will too. It’s do-able at Cal even with Knowlton’s mistakes and Christ’s indifference…just probably not by Wilcox, who is best suited as a DC at a P5 school.

At this point, I expect Ott to enter the portal. Where’s the upside for him to stay at Cal?
None. The team actually blocked for him for literally one game and he had 1200 all purpose yards.
He would start on most power 5 teams next year, it would be crazy for him to stay.
You should not speak this way....even if you think it is true. Bad mojo.
Just keeping it 100. I’d love it if he stayed though.

Dillingham will get ASU to a bowl game next season…just watch. Thanks to the transfer portal, turnarounds are totally do-able with competent coaching.
At North Texas, at Utah, at Oregon, at UCLA, at Washington, v. Auburn and SC at home…next year’s slate is rough…

You left USC off your list

JW needs to push hard for administration supporting him in a poach of a blue chip OC.
Okay, who had:
“…expect more of ourselves.”
Try harder, that will lead to success...not if you keep doing the same d--- thing.
More CMS attendance at the Spring game. Ridiculous scheduling, Pac 12.
Title wording is awkward. Makes is seem like maybe cal won?

Please stop
He’s not wrong. The fact that Fox is still here is a major black eye for Knowlton, because you can’t hide historically bad basketball. It’ll find you.
Okay. I stand by my whole comment with the exception of Cal dropping down to the MWC.

How’s the recruiting going?
5 and 6 Star recruits are abandoning the likes of Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia to enroll at Cal so they can get the best education possible during their formative years.
About as good as our record.
Remember the hopes for this season? It's hard to be an optimistic Bear. And Sonny's team looking like it will be in the championship round.
Before the season started I said I was almost already looking ahead to 2023. O-Line depth concerned me and I was more interested in Milner starting next year than Plummer right now.

We had high hopes and expectations two years in a row of 8-10 wins, only for Wilcox to post back to back losing seasons.
I hope the portal leads to more additions then subtractions.
If we don’t have a really good hire at OC and Line Coach that gets the players really excited before the portal opens, get ready for a mass exodus.
It will then be 2 years of miserable rebuilding without our skill dudes.
Yeah we need to craft a positive narrative and those hires are basically the opportunity to do so
