Cal begins to build out their 2027 recruiting class with Texas WR Blake Gunter
The Southlake wideout was the 3rd commit for the 2027 class.
Following an auspicious start to the 2027 roster at edge and linebacker, Tosh and Co. add the first offensive piece for the nascent recruiting class in 6’2, 185 pound pass catcher Blake Gunter.
Gunter is a standout wide receiver at Southlake Carroll High School, who are number one in Texas and the Nation after an undefeated 2025-2026 outing. The three-star commit posted on Saturday that he intends to come to Berkeley, choosing Cal over Tulane, Baylor, and Pitt.
The talented junior did his part to help the Dragons on their undefeated campaign, grabbing 68 receptions for 1224 yards and 18 TDs, as well as five carries for 138 yards and two more touchdowns, and looks to be a solid start to building next year’s class.
Gunter, who turned 18 earlier this month, was born in Berkeley. When he returns to play football for the Golden Bears, Gunter will be under the tutelage of receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Ike Hilliard as well as all-time Cal receiving yards record holder, assistant receivers coach Geoff McArthur.

What a great addition! Gunter has separation speed, blocking skills. excellent receiving skills and best of all, born in Berleley! Welcome Home, Gunter!
