I'm just going to assume we spent 2 weeks prepping for BC so we better win this

In all honesty, who can make a line on this game? BC got beat by a terrible Stanford team and Cal got a complete beatdown from SDSU last week. I don't know how the over is 53, unless they take the total points scored by BC in their first 3 games (138), divide by 3 and add a touchdown by Cal... The GBs have to show up on Saturday or the season could quickly go in the toilet...

You could not be more right -- which is why there is no market for this game on DraftKings or FanDuel. I'd take Cal at +6.5 in a heartbeat, nothwithstanding that I'm a cynical sunshine pumper of the first order. Literally no one can put a sensible line on this game because BC is objectively bad, and Cal is objectively doing Wilcox Cal things. Literally, Cal could not be more Cal-Wilcox than they are right now. As Murph loves to say on KNBR, "you're Cal, and you will always be Cal". God I wish that were not true -- yes, I will be at the game Saturday in Chestnut Hill yelling my head off to the displeasure of pretty much every BC fan, but goddam Cal, prove yourselves!

My son in law, who played WR when Julian Edelman was a QB at CSM, just shakes his head when I talk about my loyalty to Bear football. He just says I'm wasting my time rooting for a team that will never meet any level of excellence. He has been so right since 2008, and that really hurts...

Is he wrong from a logical standpoint? He's 100% right. Is he wrong, though? He's totally f'ing wrong. We love this team, this university, Tom Holmoe futility, Delthea O'Neil being our best offensive player even though he was a safety and kick returner... We love it! Dumpster muffin, snuffing Tennessee in Berkeley, Mike Pawalski, finally beating Washington and F'UCLA, crushing our blue and gold hearts again and again. Would you trade it for anything? Would you trade it for being a the OSU fan that just clinically wins national championships against far inferior foes? NO! This is Bear m'fing TERRITORY. Haters gonna hate. We bleed blue and gold together. GO BEARS!

While we're here, let's add the Joe Roth years and the most perfectly balanced offense in the NCAA Div 1, equally balanced between the passing and rushing year end stats. The down years - too many (Roger Theder), between the great years (Snyder - Tedford).

So damn grateful for Write for California. You have created and propogated a community that cannot be explained. One of the most beautiful aspects of this treasured website is the way multiple generations can share their experiences of Cal fandom and community. I wasn't alive to see Joe Roth play, or Charlie Muncie lead us to a Pac-10 title (or was it Pac-8). I was five yo for the Play and wasn't at the the game -- but I remember clearly the electricity coursing throught our fair City. I remember many cloudy, overcast days in the south end zone as a Cal Cub kid throwing paper airplanes and collecting plastic cal cups while we got smoked by pretty much everyone other than UOP. But goddam, we are golden m'fing bears forever. GO BEARS!

The score will be 51-17 BC wins! See, I am setting myself up with low expectations and a glimmer of “pleasant surprises “. This way I don’t get catatonic depression like I did on Saturday night.

Line trending to BC as it should since they are generally a good team at home and definitely better than Cal. This will likely be a blowout by BC, followed by two tossup games at home where we'll find out if the team has quit on the coaching staff.

If 56% of the bets are on under, and 61% on the over, how am I supposed to decide how to go with the majority?

Ah, screw it. Cal and the over. We'll put up the points that we forgot to score last week and then some. Maybe some angry bear mojo?

Ah, I see now, 61% of dollars. So the big bets are on the over; the grass roots bets on the under. Oh, well. Still not convinced that my tack needs to change. Go Bears! It is Fat Bear Week 2025, so let's eat some Eagles!

My memory of pain is short. How else could I be a Cal fan all this time? I am going to make a wager on this game; Cal will beat the spread and then some. Perhaps if not, the loss of my money will teach me a lesson that sticks. Go Bears.

I half heartedly drove into the casino yesterday. Parked, walked inside and did my memorized left, right & right turns to efficiently reach the sports book. Placed $20 on the Cal money line. Playing it safe vs. going for more.
