Thanks Nick. Good stuff...Lars’ ankle injury early in the week hurt...he’d been giving serviceable minutes in the post but wasn’t effective with the foot.

A trip down the floor is a possession, whether it includes an offensive rebound or not. So if you score immediately it’s a 2 point possession. If you miss a shot, get the rebound, and then score, it’s still a 2 point possession.

Nick, this is how I understand PPP. Basically one possession is however long the ball doesn't change hands to the other team. Changing ball possession occurs on a defensive rebound, steal/turnover, and shot made

ex1: Cal shoots and scores = 1 possession

ex2: Cal shoots and misses, but gets offensive rebound, misses the outback, and defense rebounds = 1 possession

ex3: Cal is passing the ball around in the half court, the ball is stolen = 1 possession

that's 3 possessions

PPP = 2 pts/3 possessions = .67

Is that right?

Correct! There’s the hypothetical situation where you can get unlimited points/possession by constantly making one free throw, then rebounding your 2nd free throw miss, on and on.

its just straight in the game. it makes no difference who is in the game. its gauging made baskets for every trip down the court. offensive rebounds are another possession and if you cant score that then your PPP drops. its a good metric to see how efficient an offense is and is especially necessary for a team that tries to limit the number of possessions per game like Fox does and wants to do.

if they make a layup. it doesnt matter to the total points scored if they had 1 rebound or 100 rebounds before it. thats the point. this is based on the overall stat of the game not by personnel. and if you want that discussion please tell me how many offensive rebounds theyve collected while both on the floor together.
