Cal DB Collin Gamble enters transfer portal
The California Golden Bears will lose a key contributor in the secondary.
The California Golden Bears have lost another defensive contributor for the 2024 season, as Collin Gamble has decided to enter the portal.
Gamble was one of the team's best tacklers a few years ago from the nickel position, putting up 31 in 2021 and 32 in 2022 while breaking up eight passes and logging an interception and a sack. However, Gamble’s 2023 campaign ended before it started with an injury, and others appear to have taken his place in the rotation.
With Gamble leaving, Matthew Littlejohn has likely wrapped up the starting position going into the 2023 season. Expect many of the secondary options (Ja’ir Smith, Isaiah Crosby, Cam Sidney and Kaylin Moore) to compete for the additional snaps.
Cal has now lost two key defensive contributors in Myles Jernigan and Gamble to the spring transfer portal, so hopefully the Bears will be able to find replacements to keep their depth shored up.
Best of luck to Gamble! He earned his Cal degree so he is officially an alumni.
Congrats, Collin Gamble, on your Cal degree. It will likely serve you far better than any football program anywhere.
Always sad to see Golden Bears leave the team, especially when they have been contributors in the past, but with the portal, immediate upgrades become available and even starters from previous years can lose their spot. Good luck to Colin.
