Cal DB Jeremiah Earby enters the Transfer Portal; WR Brian Hightower declares for NFL Draft
Putting together the departures amidst commitments
Late last week, some more names trickled on to the list of Cal Football players intending to move on from the program. Chief among them was DB Jeremiah Earby, a sophomore from East Palo Alto who had more inconsistency with his playing time this year compared to freshman year. Both he and Lu Magia Hearns were in a battle to start alongside Nohl Williams, but Earby has ultimately decided to move on and not play in the bowl game.
Similarly, WR Brian Hightower will also not suit up for the Golden Bears in the Independence Bowl after declaring for the NFL draft. Hightower received a lot of playing time early along the outside but was usurped over the course of the season and will look to prove himself at the next level.
We thank Jeremiah and Brian for their contributions and wish them the best in their futures!
So, in THIS post it was noted these two will not be playing in the bowl game, but I don't always see that. Is it possible KEO WILL play and THEN enter the portal? I think the winter/early signing period (Dec. 20-22) should come AFTER bowl season, so at least teams look like they did when they were selected for those bowls. At some point one of the selection criteria will be "how many starters are expected to transfer before the bowl......."
Bummer..... After the Big Game last year I found Earby on the field and thanked him profusely for being such a stud Cal Bear. Seemed to REALLY be enjoying the moment. I wish him the best.
