Writing this from Las Vegas after watching all 4 hours up close. Obviously there were awful penalties, play calling, and bone headed decisions, but what stood out to me was the body language and energy of the team after Brousseau took over for JKS.

The #1 thing that stood out to me with Brousseau vs. JKS was him standing in the pocket to let receivers get open. Also, by not immediately rolling out every passing play, Brousseau wasn't forced to throw while running, as JKS often does.

I think we're a 4 win team at this point, and will be attending or watching games simply to watch what Lupoi (and Rivera) decide to do. I also wouldn't be surprised if we see some notable changes during the season (OC of course), and I wouldn't be shocked to see Lupoi leave this off season either. He is not ready for this job, or any serious coaching job.

Given the fact that the program is probably fighting for it’s re-alignment life, right now he’s looking like a one and done.

I didn’t like Wilcox because I didn’t think he was good enough for a team with aspirations of regaining a foothold in the realigned P4. I don’t like Lupoi because I don’t think he’s good enough to coach at the FBS level, period.

JKS and this coaching staff are not on the same page. Brousseau actually seems like the better fit for whatever offense they are trying to run. I feel bad for JKS because I feel like he would be doing better in a different system. And it feels like the O-line... is willing to block for Brousseau MORE than for JKS? Am I imagining that? Or is it because Rolovich had more influence this game than the previous 4 games?

I saw exactly that, too.

Is the o-line secretly sick of the hype over JKS and refusing to block for him?

There are way too many personal foul penalties being committed, which shows a complete lack of discipline, and it seems like the team is getting worse in this area instead of better. IN-EX-CUS-ABLE‼️

The team continues to struggle with this pro playbook and that has got to get fixed. Get rid of Somerville & promote Rollovich to Assist HC in charge of the offense.

Tosh exclaiming "Hold on to your ass" and then the team virtually delivering the game to UNLV with these needless personal fouls is beyond frustrating.

Thanks JMG.

The combination of penalties and lack of discipline is simply inexcusable.

Given the inexperience, I’m honestly not all that surprised by 2-3….figured we’d be 3-2, if things broke well maybe even 4-1. But 2-3 was certainly within the realm of possibilities given uncertainty over UCLA, a cross-country flight to Cuse, a championship pedigree in Dabo’s club, and a Mullen-led UNLV that was picked to win the conference….

I AM completely surprised by how they’ve looked in getting there, though, and have zero confidence in Tosh and his staffs ability to right this ship because they’ve never done it before and these kids play like knuckleheads.

I’d still rather be 2-3 with Tosh though than 3-2 with Wilcox, so there’s that. Either way, we’re on a fast track to join Andy Panda’s Oregon State and Wazzu.

Not sure that ultimately will be a bad thing.

I think Cal being relegated to a mid-major would be a bad thing.

After going to games for nearly 50 years, I personally would not go to any more Cal sporting events.

Depends on what you value more / playing teams closer to home, including old PAC-10 rivals, and having higher likelihood of success or being Rutgers where every season it is a banishment to under .500 with no hope of improvement.

Since I bought season tickets from LA, contributed to NIL, because I believed in the sham we have been sold, and I have gone to our conference games for decades (Nebraska, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Tennessee, Texas, Notre Dame, Hawaii in Sydney, and North Carolina and missed Ole Miss because of a death in the family) yet knew after the first drive of the UCLA game we were in deep trouble, I am not going to any more games and will not donate anymore absent radical change.

Luckily I had the Dodger game to listen to while repairing the hay barn, occasionally peeking through fingers covering my eyes at the Cal score. What a disappointing season we have so far.

Honestly, if we have a coaching change it’ll have to be Ron for a couple of years to right the ship (something I wanted from the beginning but can see why he would say no initially).

What halfway decent coach would want to step into this hot mess? Especially if we get rid of Tosh after only one year.

Allegiant is beautiful but it didn’t seem like a good college venue. Cal lost in all 3 phases of the game and despite clawing back to take the lead, the penalties killed us at the end. We were already missing key players at the start, and losing 4 more in game was too much to overcome. Add in some (more) costly drops and we were not as good as a Mountain West team. Are we losing JKS, Lopa, and more recruits now?

Luckily, I was in a flight and missed this. Only

Cal…

Over/under on lost recruits this week?
