Cal Parts Ways with Football Head Coach Justin Wilcox
End of an era
News came in the late afternoon that Cal will be parting ways with Travers Family Head Football Coach Justin Wilcox. First reported by Pete Thamel, the Bears will now be looking for a new head coach after 9 years under Justin Wilcox’s direction.
Wilcox was relieved of his duties the day after losing 31 - 10 to Stanford in the 128th Big Game. In his nine years as head coach he had a record of 48 - 55, with a conference record of 26 - 47 in the Pac-12 and ACC. Wilcox had two winning seasons as Cal’s head coach, the last of which came in 2019, and led the Golden Bears to four bowls (Cheese-It, Redbox, Independence, and LA respectively), securing a fifth bowl appearance for this season before his tenure was ended. Senior Offensive Assistant Nick Rolovich will assume interim Head Coach duties.

I always liked Wilcox and he was a great ambassador for the program. And I always wanted to give him more time right up until this season. Last night was absolutely the last straw. This is the right decision
Similar to my thoughts on other posts here, I’m glad we’re turning the page but sad it didn’t work out. Wilcox is by all accounts a really good man and leader. He did a ton for the program and I’m grateful for everything he put into cal.
