Like you Lindsey, the only thing that really disturbed me about the game were the penalties, most especially Uluave’s IDIOTIC targeting. He took himself out of the first half of what is certain to be one of Cal’s most difficult games.
Cal was favored by 45 points! They were ahead by 3 until late in the 2nd quarter and up by 11 at the half. Did they take TSU too lightly? They will have to play much better against Minnesota.
Play calls through first several series were very conservative, as though they were to get reps in a scrimmage. Calls from late Q2 on seemed more interesting, but still not super revealing, since Raphael started to do well on pedestrian calls

JKS putting the poi in poise
I think the run game is going to critical going forward; and the jury is still out on how good they will be.

I didn't watch the game but was there anything different, such as personnel or play calling that led to success later in the game?

Thank you. So it was more conservative but less successful in the first half?
