Ron Rivera appears to be a stabilizing and solidifying force. No job hopper, he likely respects that about Coach Wilcox, too, and will be a welcome mentor and sounding board for our beleaguered Travers Family man. Players come and go. It’s up to the leadership to build a place where they prefer to stay.
Agree with that. Other than money, we need to have an edge in terms of recruiting and retention for long term success. I think that comes down to culture.
Cal fans: Justin Wilcox is a genuinely good man and, at least on defense, an excellent coach. I really do hope that our Golden Bears have some kind of breakthrough season with at least eight wins. The future of athletics does depend on football being a solid (7-8 wins per season) program. 2030 is right around the corner and we NEED a Big 10 invite! Football gods, pray for us.
What’s everyone take on JW bringing 2 QBs to media day..?
For me: Another year of JW’s inability to choose a QB and stick with him. Is it early…? YES… But this is yet another painful example of Wilcox not growing as a HC.. I fully envision another repeat of last year and many previous under JW’s tenure. Inconsistent QB play with designed packages to bring in the backup that don’t equate to much success or longevity. Wonder if over promising, similar to what they did to Chandler Rodgers last year, lead to this.
The team will need above average QB play to overcome talent discrepancies in skill positions. Otherwise, the results of this season could be scary bad, aka just another Cal Football Season. Nonetheless, GO Bears.
I think you are missing the point. We have two high caliber QBs, one of which is very young but very talented (and is a flight risk). He has to manage both of their egos.
QBs can go down quickly, so having two guys that are capable is a huge advantage. Ideal situation is that DB starts this year and Jaron has some time to develop, then becomes the starter in 2026. However, simply demoting him to second string, right away, would be a stupid move.
Schools undergoing QB battles typically wouldn’t bring any QB. Creates a weird circumstance. Think back, almost every year under JW there has been QB weirdness and multiple QBs playing.
Last year they did the same thing, 2 QBs to media day, and now none of those kids are in Berkeley.
Makes you think JW doesn’t have a clue when it comes to the QB position.
Well pal, I was a head high school football coach and a college assistant after that for a total of 42 years. I'm saying that it is easy to criticize by the "bleacher" coach, but put him in the spotlight and he has no idea about coaching.
A snippet your life story… Strange, no one asked for that brother.
Perhaps Alums, like myself, have different feelings of JW and his tendencies that lead to a 42-50 record over 8 seasons.
If you’ve been coaching and around the game for “42 years” then you should remember when Cal was good and national contenders. Because I sure remember those days!!
Maybe plain old stakeholders of Cal Football, like yourself, are just happy to root for a college program. Results and wins must not matter?

Shoot, I thought I was the only beleaguered Travers family man. Gotta make room for coach I guess
I guess, since either you or your (however distant) Travers Family relatives are underwriting the man’s salary.

Didn't see JKS at the interviews. Anyone know why he wasn't there?
He just wasn’t at the main podium and acc network stuff, he did other radio row interviews
All the teams have timing sheets so only a certain # of people who came do specific stations
I have a feeling our entire roster is going to be day-to-day this season.
At the very least we will know. The lack of injury reports in seasons past literally drove me insane
Won't they still be able to overgeneralize as "lower body injury" or "upper body injury"?
100% with you

And you do? How successful have you been as a head coach?
Buddy you must love JW, and his stellar record. 7-19 in 1 score games since 2020. Haven’t had a winning season since 2019.
Alumni base is tired of it. Others like yourself - must be satisfied with the mountains of success JW is making.
LOL good try tho.
E.L.E.
Everybody Love Everybody. Go Bears.
