Cal football coaches hit 79 local schools. Who are the top Bay Area recruits?
A preview of the top 2023 Bay Area talent Cal will try and land.
The California Golden Bears started the newest recruiting contact period by blitzing the schools in the local area. Here’s a small sample of what the Bears were up to.
In all, the Bears checked out 79 local schools.
Running back coach Aristotle Thompson hit up the San Francisco area, checking out Sacred Heart Cathedral. He also went to Balboa High as well.
Wide receivers coach Burl Toler seemed to take his focus down East Bay, treading Hayward and Castro Valley. He also checked out Oakland and the Solano area.
Offensive line coach Angus McClure took a trip up to North Bay, hitting up the stomping grounds of an old Marin Catholic legend.
So who is Cal likely checking out on the recruiting trail? Here would be some of the top local targets:
Jaden Rashada, Pittsburg QB
Major offers: Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, UCLA and Washington
Rashada is the top prospect in the Bay Area and arguably the best California quarterback in the 2023 class. He originally listed a top ten that did not include Cal—the top ten is above—but the Bears might be attracting some attention.
This will be an uphill battle for the Bears to land a top quarterback prospect in their own backyard. But it is definitely a priority—the Bears need signal-callers to offset not taking a high school quarterback in 2022. It’s important for the Bears to maintain class balance—the transfer portal won’t always be there to land them a Jack Plummer.
