Cal fans: As an alum who has relatives in Birmingham and who visits every year, I can tell you that the rib joints are AWESOME!!!!! Beyond that, I'm not sure why you would want to go to Birmingham but Nashville isn't that far away. Pinstripe Bowl is in New York so that should probably be a preferred destination. The nightlife, culture, etc. in Manhattan are incredible and there are plenty of Cal Alums already there. Finally, the Military Bowl in Annapolis sounds interesting because A) Annapolis is a beautiful town with amazing seafood and B) It is close to Washington, D.C. where there is plenty of nightlife, culture and Cal Alums.
Aren’t they on the hook for payouts to the remaining schools per the settlement, plus they owe Comcast $50M for the over-payment, as well as other financial commitments. So it’s not a blank check for those folks.
In related news, Oregon State has become the most obnoxious fan base on the socials, with much of their vitriol directed at Cal. So F them, IMO.
Ah, I wasnt paying attention to how that settlement stuff played out..
RE: Oregon State fans-- I hadnt heard about the recent vitriol. Perhaps they've been reading up on the Florida State's position that "Oregon State is worth more than Cal".
Just from my Twitter experience, they’re entirely focused on recency-bias and are pissed that Cal found a P5 home while they did not. Little things like TV market, academics, and overall athletic department success do not really factor in. The funny thing is OSU is largely irrelevant to many Cal fans…
Im not on twitter but see the same elsewhere. USC started the blow-up, corner schools joined in, then they were abandoned by their in-state rival, coaching staff, and starting QB. Now they're mad at Cal and furd because we're "elitist".
yeah I was reading some yesterday and really surprised at how much some of them seem to hate us. Weird because of all the departing P12 members, we and furd were the least to blame for the collapse.
Lots of articles on the web that indicate the ACC deal may blow up. The persons who write on this subject, can be full of crap but occasionally reveal a few grains of truth, after promoting their shows through their overstatements.
Were going to look back and say why did we go to the ACC and not stay with Oregon St and Washington St. and rebuild the West Coast teams. Lead dont follow your competition!
I disagree. The ACC move may ultimately fail, but it’s dice worth rolling. The Pac-2 will always be an option if we want it or if the ACC splits apart.
We would immediately be the two largest, most validating programs for the conference lol. And their payout is already going to be minimal. Going back to the current version of the PAC is us giving up.
Welp, a positive attitude is good, but we should see the signs of a winning season starting right now. Do we see such signs? Are players using every spare minute conditioning and practicing on their own?
Destroyed by design. Wounding the remainder of the P12, left a near monopoly on West Coast recruiting for, hmmm, who? It's my understanding that $C fought against Washington and Oregon being invited to the Big10. Hmmm....
So realignment ia a mixed bag.
But, I like the change of the toxic environment $C creates.
24/7 makes the "Daring Prediction" that $C will lose four games to top twenty opponents- again.

If you know a tidal wave coming to the beach that day, why decide to go to the beach and have a picnic with the rest of the group?

Wow we get to play so many games this upcoming season
Ah, more complications from the great game of Musical Chairs. Would be hilarious if Wazzu and OSU keep all the bowl money.

And they can't seem to shake that "second rate" academic rep.
That makes for angry Beavers to begin with.
I guess that explains the chainsaws.
Back in my day, OSU football was pitiable.
I think they're bitter for their own rags to riches to rags turn of events.
Yeah, UCLA's great buy-in was being in LA...you know...the eyeball count.
I'd kiss their Oregon State's a$$ in sympathy, but they'll have to move their own noses, first.
yeah I was reading some yesterday and really surprised at how much some of them seem to hate us. Weird because of all the departing P12 members, we and furd were the least to blame for the collapse.
If anything, Furd should get more hate than us since they dragged us along to the ACC.
The Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl as ACC…this is my Graceland.
Roll call for Cal’s first Sun Bowl appearance…go!
For me, it's the Poptarts Bowl.
Isn't that in El Paso? Have you ever been to El Paso?
Yes, plenty of times. It’s horrid.
That changes nothing…the Sun has been elusive. Gimme New Year’s Eve day on the chilly UTEP campus any day. LFG!!
"this is my Graceland" i love that reference

Our deal? The whole deal (i.e. the conference)? FSU's deal? Which deal?

This is one of this situations where I'm not ready to commit mentally to bowl eligibility...then get blindsided by going 6-6 and not being selected.

When we and ‘Furd come crawling back to WSU’s/OSU’s cradling arms, perhaps they will give us an extremely low annual payout just like the ACC did.
Hah. OSU/WSU will never have any real kind of leverage.
We would immediately be the two largest, most validating programs for the conference lol. And their payout is already going to be minimal. Going back to the current version of the PAC is us giving up.
No, we’re not. It sucks, and everyone can agree that playing in the ACC makes zero sense…but staying put was not an option, folks.
Welp, a positive attitude is good, but we should see the signs of a winning season starting right now. Do we see such signs? Are players using every spare minute conditioning and practicing on their own?
Go Bears!

Stuff I never think to think about until one of the devoted scribes of Write for California thinks about it for me. Thank you and well done.
Another reason why the PAC12 should have never been destroyed. That's a strong word but it's what happened.
Destroyed by design. Wounding the remainder of the P12, left a near monopoly on West Coast recruiting for, hmmm, who? It's my understanding that $C fought against Washington and Oregon being invited to the Big10. Hmmm....
I hope Carol Folt gets the shingles.
She's gotta be Mack Brown's sister, right?
