Meanwhile on the defensive side, I see we have 2 DBs transferring into Cal: Kaylin Moore from Colorado and Nohl Williams from UNLV. Assuming Hearns is back healthy next season, the secondary should be in pretty good shape.
I'm at an airport lounge in Tokyo and seeing a guy in Stanford Tree logo sweatshirt sitting across from me. Can't decide whether I should strike a conversation about Troy Taylor.
What everyone is overlooking here is that all three new hires have OC experience. Bloesch’s units ranked in the top ten for rushing offense and fewest sacks allowed. Hank Bachmeier had his best year under Plough last year at Boise St, and that he entered the transfer portal almost immediately after Plough was let go in week 3/4 of this season. That should tell you how highly a 4 year starter thought of his OC being fired.
Agreed on the OC experience. As Wilcox appears to be someone who has no involvement with the offensive gameplan, it's encouraging that several of these new assistants can bolster the offensive gameplanning with their past OC experience. While I was slightly positive on the Spav hire, I am much more encouraged by the entire collection of new offensive staff members.
Is Cal going to remain w/o a ST coordinator or is one of the new hires going to take that on?
I'm cautiously optimistic about all the new guys, but would love to have SOMEONE take on the ST role so we have some additional focus on a position that can swing a game 3-10pts
The OL really was our Achilles heel for the season with all struggles offensively and eventually defensively (due to fatigue) leading from that. The combination of a more-suitable spread offense with a good OL coach really should help. The new hires all look good.
Not sure what to make of Plough but I'm not sure how critical TE will be for us anyway as a position (though I of course welcome improvement!).
There’s been no news of him not being retained and apparently he was instrumental in creating the schemes against Stanfurd and UCLA. He’s also still listed on the CAL football website.
These look like good hires. For Plough I don't see TE experience, but I also don't know the extent to which the other experiences he has had make this an easy transition or not. When Bloesch was a Tulsa, they did not have a TE coach. Not sure if he coached them or the receiver coach did or both. But maybe between the two of them, they will have it down.
They both have prior experience as OCs which suggests that they understand the big picture and can help with game plans. First task is to recruit the players we have to stay. Then we need to hit the portal to add depth and position competition for the offense. Go Bears. Please turn this around.
We have had a lot of bad news this fall (football and basketball). I'm glad we have some good news that we can talk about :)

Secondary is always in good shape under Wilcox.
Need to grab some difference makers on the DL and ratchet up the pressure…our lack of a pass rush hurt the DBs…
A return by Brett Johnson would be a big help, along with some new additions.

Send him a Wikipedia link ;-)
I'd avoid him. You don't want to get caught up in any sordid crimes he's committing.
beat him up :), establish dominance and let him know who has the axe (all this allegedly happening of course)
All the Stanford apparel means is that he didn't care about football. Unless he happens to be that one fan who shows up.
I'm pretty sure you'll get a vacant stare if you mention TT.
I like these hires.

That's so good to see!
A thoughtful assessment.

I'm pretty sure all of the NCAA- allowed coaching slots are full, so unless there is another staff change, there won't be an ST coordinator.
Let's go!
Plough does, but Bloesch doesn't have a Wikipedia page. Must not be good if he doesn't have a page!
So it seems like Plough didn't actually *play* in that 2005 Furd game... still cool though.

He's no longer on the CAL football website as of today (12/13)
Him and his brother are taking their ball home and starting their own football team!
Mr. Plough, that's his name.
That name again is Mr. Plough
Not Homer?
Yup summed up my thoughts exactly Bloesch looks good Plough looks meh
