A Sunday Scrimmage in Strawberry Canyon
Coming into the home stretch of fall camp, there are still a myriad of battles taking place for the California Golden Bears. The more questions we ask ourselves about the quarterback, the answers almost becomes less clear as to who is starting week 1. How many new weapons will see the field on both sides of the ball? Are there already so many injuries that one of us may suit up? The Bears looked to provide some clarity as the opener is now less than three weeks away.
Play of the Day: TE Ben Marshall makes a ridiculous one handed catch that sent all of the Berkeley Hills into a frenzy. I mean it was just Odell Beckham Jr levels of insanity, just take a look for yourself.
Offense
Chandler Rogers has continually made small inroads on the gap between him and Fernando Mendoza. Mendoza currently has a better floor with his experience in the offense, but Rogers slowly but surely has been making more game breaking plays over the course of camp. The dilemma comes forward when deciding, is Rogers considerably better to the point where his skillset overtakes Mendoza’s continuity? Right now the answer is still up in the air
With neither QB turning the ball over, it also becomes a discussion of finishing drives, and Rogers was able announce himself on scene with a 75 yard bomb to Tobias Merriweather
Overall, both passers need to execute better in the red zone. During Sunday’s scrimmage, the defense had their way at times, stuffing the offense at critical junctures
