I love this quote “ we do five laterals and a trombone and next thing you know we’re packed”.

It starts with creating a share belief that Cal leadership (together with Furds’), has the will and the desire in winning the hearts and minds of Bay Area audience, perhaps starting with these captivating stories that transcends sports (in addition to showing real desire for excellence in sports). When the fans sense that you are not even trying - it’s hard to rally together as a community.

I feel good about Ron leading as GM of Cal athletics in this new NIL reality.

Much as I would love to win the Big Game 52-3 every year, the reality is a stronger rivalry is better. I’ll be happy with 31-13 every year.

I want Cal to go 12-0, and Furd to go 11-1. I have so much respect for both RR and Andrew Luck and our respective schools that this would be my perfect scenario. How's that for sunshine pumping! Go Bears!

Right you are. The days of sophomoric disrespect for Stanford University must end as we collaborate on seizing the Bay, as Rivera wisely states. Trash talk on Big Game Day, beat the crap out of ‘em in all sports, all the time. But don’t diminish them as an institution because our fortunes are tied together and, as if it needs to be said, it’s a superb center of knowledge, scholarship and athletics. Period.

I will still hate them - but will also recognize that they have saved us from becoming WSU-OSU. But I think Cal needs to own East Bay. And when it comes time for us to save Furd, let’s do so as returning the favor. That way, slate is clean and we can go back to hating them 100 pct haha

Do you actually hate-hate them or funny-hate them?

I Clockwork Orange hate them. It's innate and drilled deep into my ethos in an illogical way that I cannot explain. I hate their plain Jane women, their smug, condescending attitudes about their academic prowess, and I hate that damned Tree.

... but, I get it. While I will never like StanfUrd, I am going to try to accept them and the situation. They are now like a sibling that you can't stand but have to live with. I do have more respect for them after what they did for us with the ACC.

My enemies are now U$C and fUCLA. I don't even want to play fUCLA; they are dead to me. Would love a chance to pound U$C into the dirt. That school is full of a$$holes.

That’s the kind of hate that leads to digestive issues.

I agree a strong Stanford and a stronger Cal is ideal.

Nevertheless, if Hawaii beats them tomorrow I will enjoy the hell out of it.

Surprised to hear zero NIL contracts among the current roster. That arm of the operation has been dropped for the time being, I gather. But perhaps this explains, in no small part, why so many players bolted.

Not true. The timing of the events was that the players bolted first, then House settlement was announced, then Cal Legends (our NIL) folded into the Caliber program (UCBerkeley football fund) so that there isn’t any confusion about where donation money should be directed

As others are saying, it's not that they are not getting paid -- it's that the specific type of NIL collective that Cal was running is about to be regulated as a result of the House settlement. Now, our player payments are going through the non-NIL program that's going to be the 'allowed' vehicle for payment going forward.

It said none outside of the revenue sharing. So the current players are getting about 20 million dollars.

I’m glad Rivera is focused on capturing the enormous potential of East Bay fandom. That is something that people like me and Alpha 1906 have been going on about for WAY too long. Rivera said it’s been pathetic in the past and he’s glad a change has been made in this area of marketing. Rest assured, if this doesn’t pan out, he will make sure there is another change
