I don't recall many formations that included a fullback this past year albeit we only had 4 games. Both guys transferring begs the questions, "WTF is going on with this offense?" I mean Zach was pretty much guaranteed playing time. Polk and now these 2, something smells methinks. I really hope I'm wrong and that the Cal offense comes out firing on all cylinders in the Fall.
CBJ is starting to remind me of Vic Enwere. His ability between the tackles regressed this year. Strangely, the very first drive of the first game (UCLA) this year he looked awesome hitting the holes and I was hopeful for a great season from him. Then it just stopped. His main strength seems to still be swing passes and wheel routes (which I've always thought they should go to more often because he's always open as check down but rarely thrown to, before Garbers decides to take off). With Enwere, the diminutive Khalfani Muhammad was our much better goal line back. Similarly, unfortunately, it seems if you really need a couple yards in a situation, you're better off handing it to Dancy or the emerging Damien Moore. CBJ seems to need to get the ball in space with some momentum.
It would be great to have a true breakaway back on the roster. If you recall Moore was caught from behind in the Stanford game. Someone like Jermar Jefferson. The walk on Stredick may be the fastest back at around 4.5 40 speed.
yeah, we've last speed across the board at all the skill positions, pretty much the entire post-Tedford era. Demetris Robertson leaving was almost a poetic symbol of speed leaving the program. Dykes was all system/scheme, and Wilcox is a defensive coach, who despite good hires with promise, missed on his first offensive staff. Hopefully Musgrave's NFL roots will start to attract that next level talent on offense again (see the latest QB recruit) (unsee Polk leaving).
Ah that's right. But whenever he played later in the season after that he seemed to lack the ability to get up field from the handoff, while still looking good in open field or second level situations, but who knows.. I ought to re-watch this season, but that doesn't seem like a fun undertaking. Holding out for him to be improved again next season.
I was actually looking forward to having him start, Drew Schlegel really pissed me off in the games he played in this year but obviously Zack sees a better fit for him, a sad loss indeed. I'll play fullback instead don't worry I'll uphold the Justin Wilcox tradition of getting stuffed on 3rd and 1 runs up the gut.
No surprise...FB is a dying position at both the college & pro level....get ready for 3-WR sets and “12”personnel, with Jermaine Terry serving as a major receiving weapon (provided Musgrave knows what he’s doing...with the jury still out as to whether he does)
We have to sign about five grad transfers then
I guess bradrick shaw also entered the transfer portal
We hardly knew you....

I love that these “kids” are taking advantage. Power to the people!
vigilante justice. squeeze the ncaa's short position on amateur athletes!
Maybe CBjr can switch to fullback,
Moving our starting tailback to fullback?

Like when Marcus Allen was moved to fullback for Bo Jackson.

Missing the days of Jahvid Best and his sub-4.4 speed.

we've *lacked speed..
He got hurt in the UCLA game

So we are going back to the Bear Raid! 3/4 WR sets with a single back!! I can’t wait to have a functional offense again.
