Cal Football is currently without a Offensive Coordinator but TE Coach Geep Chryst is still recruiting the position for beyond this upcoming season. 2024 TE Camden Jones has committed to the Bears and becomes the first commit of the 2024 class. Jones checks in at 6-foot-6 and 230lbs, currently playing his football for Pasadena High School in Pasadena, CA. He chose the Bears over a final 3 of Cal, Oregon State and Washington State.
Read up on why he chose the Bears in his interview with Matt Moreno of Cal Rivals
"Cal and the coaching staff seemed fired up to offer me from the jump," Jones said about his decision. "I met Geep Chryst one day then the next they offered me which was amazing and a huge shock to me. I like everything about the program plus I love the Bay Area."
The multi-sport athlete, who also plays basketball, earned an offer from Chryst and the Bears early in the process, and he has been on campus numerous times at Cal. The familiarity played a big part in pushing Jones to make an early choice over a year before he can sign with a college program.
"Mainly where the school is placed and how easy it is to get in and out of there you know?" he said about why Cal won out over his other options, which also included Arizona State, Colorado State and Colorado. "I don’t want to be stuck in a city where I’ve never heard about or I don’t want my parents to get suck in a place no one knows about when they want to come and visit.
"It also came down to me knowing if the coaches really want to use me in their program, so I can help rebuild. I wouldn’t want to go to a school then only end up actually playing my senior year."
