Cal football turns the page to a new era
Last night's game reminds us why we had to close the book.
The last vestiges of the Justin Wilcox era came to a close on Christmas Eve. Our former head coach has been gone for awhile, but the issues that plagued his teams for a decade all surfaced in these final 60 minutes of Cal football in 2025.
A program in need of serious change reminded us of why things had to be different in 2026. A 21-0 blown lead, mistakes and penalties galore, bizarre in-game coaching decisions, the seventh game of the year (and the sixth loss) where Cal gave up an uncontested three-score run, and an embarrassing postgame brawl that will likely have repercussions in the coming days.
The 2025 Big Game showed us why we needed a new leader at the head of our program. The 2025 Hawaii Bowl showed us too much of the current DNA of these Golden Bears will not be good enough to win anything of substance.
Tosh Lupoi will be fully on the job shortly. Aside from a handful of our best players and a few assistants, it looks as if he will need to hit the restart button to get us back to where we needed to be.
Enjoy your Christmas. A new era of the California Golden Bears beckons.

If anyone still doubts why Ron Rivera hit the reset button, the reasons were all on display during this game.
I’m not upset with this loss because it was a fun and competitive game and we didn’t have any major injuries to any players. I hope the team enjoyed their trip to Hawaii
