Cal Football K Mateen Bhaghani, OG Everett Johnson, and LB Blake Antzoulatos enter the Transfer Portal
The second wave
Some more names have declared their intentions to enter the transfer portal for Cal Football, and chief among them was starting kicker Mateen Bhaghani. Bhaghani, a true freshman who took over for Michael Luckhurst midseason, went 8/9 on field goals and nailed all of his extra points during his year as a Golden Bear. He will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.
In addition to Bhaghani, backup offensive lineman Everett Johnson also entered the portal as a graduate transfer. Johnson played some snaps on the offensive line down the stretch of the 2022 season due to injury and was fun to watch in spring ball and fall camp, but could not crack the rotation further. He will have two years of eligibility at his next stop.
The last transfer portal declaration was LB Blake Antzoulatos, who was overtaken in the linebacker room this year by Cade Uluave and Hunter Barth. The redshirt junior retained his redshirt in 2019, suffered a season ending injury in 2021, so I believe he will have two years of eligibility at his next stop should he elect to take it despite being a current 5th year.
We thank these men for their contributions at Cal and wish them the best in their future!
the Cal NIL collective is running a fund raising drive to help keep current players, and bring in new transfers. Unfortunately that's the way of the (college) world now. So everyone that can contribute even a small donation, it would be a good time to do so:

Thank you and Go Bears!
I don’t understand why the transfer portal is open before all the bowl games. Also why are coaches allowed to leave before the bowl games. The team going to the bowl doesn’t end up being the team that got them there. And frankly, as a football fan, it is not enjoyable with all the added uncertainty. I know CF has been taken over by the media people, but who controls the transfer portal and coaches contracts that allow them to go before the end? As a media company I wouldn’t think they would want this for the risk of the fans losing interest.
Also why is Bhaghani leaving. I don’t get it. Still want to know the real reason for Spav leaving.
I’m losing interest in these once super exciting bowl games...
But I am faithful to my Bears and will be watching with more anxiety than I thought I would have after the UCLA game. The guys playing deserve our support and I really want them to win so they leave this season excited for next year and don’t want to leave...
