Glad to hear that the Ursa Majors are coordinating and that the University bureaucracy is getting out of its own way to facilitate. The new rules don't require keeping donors at arms lengths so Cal better be enthusiastic about giving out bear hugs.
It's a sad state of things that college football has stooped to this now. Recruiting players by giving them extravagant large amounts of money to play. Some players, especially QB's, are getting 6 figures of $. It used to be just a scholarship which would cover tuition and room and board.
Glad to hear about this. Good perks for that much money. In retirement, I'm pretty sure I will join this group. Until then, it's save, save, save. Only a couple more years until I jump off the work train! Go Bears!
Every dollar counts! So even if we (and I included myself) are not at the 10k per year - if we have discretionary funds they’re also helpful and appreciated by the NIL
I was unaware of the Starkey statue initiative (such that it is), but let me be the next to join the chorus of what an awful idea to enshrine a mediocre (I'm being generous) play-by-play man. And this alongside an endlessly repeating grainy video of the play which will entice approximately no one to come visit Memorial (vs just pulling it up on YouTube) and throw thousands of dollars at the program.
Throwing thousands, instead, at NIL is sadly the only way to raise the team's talent level and therefore it's profile.
Glad that big donors are stepping up in our brave new NIL world. Every bit helps. I encourage little donors like me to keep pitching in.
Not sure why some people still love to haul out their Starkey-hate at every opportunity. He may not have been the most technically proficient, but he did a great job at conveying the emotion of the game and I LOVED IT!!! His call of The Play is an immortal example of that.

Not to mention the adjuncts and lecturers who can't even afford housing; nope, they don't even get a bake sale. America.

Good to see that people are on this. I don't think I'll be joining them on my state worker salary, though.

Someday I’ll be there
Not me doing the math to see if I can swing this...
This might be a better use of funds than, say, a statue of Joe Starkey with a video loop of the play, but what do I know.

This is not about the Starkey hate.
Don't say such a thing. If you deny it, he will take it personally and post 100 comments about it.
He'll have to start a burner account then.
It will be so easy to tell if he does
It’s a one-person initiative.
