Our class ranking is going to suck because the class is tiny without any blue chips, but love the people we have. Just wish we would have like...tried to recruit at OL even just a bit.
That was unfortunately a byproduct of the guys doing the recruiting the last two years (McClure). Starting from scratch is tough, but we're snagging some talent and we're not done yet.
Offensive line schemes should be much easier to learn, so the players we have should hopefully execute a level higher than they did this year even if they don't end up elite. We don't need elite right now, we just need average so we can have a functional offense and recruit better.
Cardwell is huge. He was the leading candidate to be the #1 at Oregon until he got hurt. He’s the reason Verdell and Dye left. That’s a great 2 headed attack with Ott now.
He and Ott will be the hammer and speed combo. It's a good thing. I want to see a solid dual threat QB picked up from the portal and a few really really good O-Linemen. If we can pick up the QB the linemen will come because we have a defense and we have the skill players on offense.
Hopefully this will develop into a nice class. Recruiting tends to be a crap shoot, with many guys barely ever seeing the field. So you never know, hard to predict which 3 stars can be coached up. It seems like the portal is more of a known commodity, as the incoming players have stats and film to evaluate.
If you look at these guys vs some of the 4 stars the big difference is we are getting longer guys, with some speed...the rest is up to the coaches. I like the way we are thinking.
But look how many of their 4 and 5 star guys have transferred last year and this year. Only 11 at a time can be on the field. Plus, I don't think Lanning is that good as a HC and he lost his OC (who was brilliant in my mind) and his DC is a toad and never was successful as a DC. We'll beat them if we can get a decent QB.
The best way to win is to have the best players out there with the best coaches. Star rankings are an initial assessment of athletic ability and readiness to play. 4 and 5 star players are more athletic and ready to play early than 3 star players. But 2 and 3 star players, with time in the weight room and practice can turn out to be better than 4 and 5 star players. Ask JJ Watt. I'll take a kid who is long, has speed and plays tough and nasty. And let's not forget coaching. Other PAC12 coaches picked Wilcox and his staff as the coaching staff that gets the most out of their kids. Like I said, I think Lanning is decent, but I don't think he's a great coach; he walked into a very reputable program with a lot of $$ and talent and great facilities. And I think Tosh the Toad is a loser as a DC.
I'd argue that it's not just "more ready to play early." They're ready to play early because they're freaks of nature athletically speaking, meaning they have higher ceilings too. 3* can definitely make it to the NFL, but the conversion rates from college are abysmal in comparison to 4* and 5* as a result.
It's been proven time and time again, the way to win a CFB championship is to have a disgusting blue chip ratio where your backups would start on other teams and by the time you're in your 3 deep the other team is exhausted of talent.
Surely you know the pro bow stat is because there are more 3 star recruits. Your likelihood of success is pretty well determined by number of 4 and 5 star recruits, it’s been proven over and over again that to win big in college you need a high blue chip percentage.
Yes, star rankings are subjective, but there are valid criteria. And, one negative to having 4 & 5 *'s is that they'll possibly dominate & leave early for the league. But your coached-up 3 *'s will possibly have the same short productive CFB life span, as they'll only see the field in their 3rd and/or 4th year. I believe Wilcox is right for Cal & we probably couldn't admit most or all of UO's highly ranked class, but we wouldn't turn away a qualified 4* in favor of a 3.
Step 1 is doing more with less. Step 2 is winning enough games doing more with less to consistently win bowl games. We were here, but then regressed back to Step 1 with Musgrave. We need to get back to Step 2, which is Step 3: recruit better off of bowl wins to get more 4* talent (like we did with Ott/Anderson/Sturdivant/etc.) until we're winning enough games we can grab an occasional 5*.
Disagree. These rankings are based on offensive skill positions (which is our strength), QBs, and number of recruits. The transfers that we have brought in are good players that will make an impact. But we NEED more OL
Plummer's now gone too! Is it Millner SZN???
He gone too
We're number 11, we're number 11. (But there are only 10 teams left...)
in the country!

Starting from scratch in year 7 is very disappointing.

And Cardwell. BOOOM!!!
Damn! Looks like he just hit the portal Monday, what a awesome NSD surprise! Damn, pumped on this!

Love the UC Los Angeles tears!
Excellent backfield. Now if only we can give them some blocking.
Yo Cardwell is transferring here!

Sergio Allen is a massive get. If somehow someway tunmise commits as well this defense is back
Tunmise will probably go to Michigan State (not final, though!) but Allen is indeed a huge signing.
Now final
We don't have single OL?
Despite the lack of recruits, I like a lot of the recruits individually. But I can't stress this enough, WE NEED TO HIT THE PORTAL FOR OL AND DL!

its a good thing we're making so many moves in the portal then! /s
But without the sarcasm! We needed help at ILB and Cardwell was one of the best backs in the portal. Hopefully we get some OL surprises by EOD.
"It will be one of the quietest signing days for the Golden Bears in some time."
Frankly, I am surprised I even viewed this. After all, it did not read "....the quietest signing day in history".
The reverse jinx worked
Indeed it did. Transfer portal delivering some early Christmas gifts for the Bears!
I’ll trade two safeties and a wide receiver for a massive OL tackle.

Absolutely - the way to win is to have 11 three star guys out there instead of 11 four & five stars. What was Oregon thinking???

Didn't. OU's OC called a brilliant game and we fucked the dog.
Oregon is UO.

Slater Zellers - safety?? I think not. Perhaps long snapper but not safety.
Long s̶n̶a̶p̶p̶e̶r̶ safety
