Brilliant writing. My favorite is description of the Berkeley Bowl: "...Valhalla for a very particular kind of GRWM creature in the Bay....". Been that way since it opened in the old bowling alley in 1977.

But could some rephrase it all so that someone in an older generation knows what I just read?
Genius...loved this, and has so many of my old haunts, including cough cough, Chez Panisse (yes, I'm over 65 and yes, I know Alice).
Although not located within Berkeley city limits, menrion could have been made of The Hotsy Totsy Club in Albany on San Pablo Ave.
