Cal has had arguably THE worst P4 O-line for back-to-back seasons, spanning 2 different OL coaches and OCs…they’ve turned over much of the personnel and added some big bodies to to go along with these returners and some underclassmen they like.
Getting better production from the trenches is essential to winning 8-9+ games in 2026, so this should be interesting…
Here's hoping Anae and Talamaivao can get the most out of these folks! I don't know if Anae's return has been formally announced but he's been recruiting.
I know we had OL issues but here's hoping that the mix of experience, coaching, and new faces will keep JKS safe and happy. We do have real size and talent, and we also have McMorris arriving from the HS ranks.
I feel as optimistic with the line as I have in a while.
We signed a new kicker Towns McGough from Auburn. He was one of the top-ranked in HS but his college performance was lacking. Sometimes a new setting and different coach can turn things around.
No wonder Chase Meyer withdrew his name from the portal today. He thought he was going to lose his job, but saw McGough signing and thought his job is secure.
I feel like with kickers who have seen success before, even in high school, the yips are super easy to get. Once you start missing, man it's hard to come back. Change of location & pace could very much just be what he needs.
Or we're just stuck with two inconsistent kickers again. Who knows.
He grew up in Auburn and then joined Auburn. Then unexpectedly had to start as a true frosh. Could have just been too much too soon. Of course there's enough evidence that we shouldn't be gambling on him being our primary kicking option.
Berkeley and Auburn couldn't be more different. Here's hoping exposure to Telegraph Ave. reboots his brain rather than fries it.
Hope springs eternal! We definitely need better consistency in that room so hopefully Tosh has his sights on someone who can hit the long ones as well as the chip shots.
Solid news for Cal's depth chart. Swinney coming back gives them some much-needed continuity at center after losing so much experienceto the portal. I watched a few of his snaps last season, and while he was working back from injury, the guy showed decent football IQ when he was on the field. Getting Williams back at tackle is probablyeven more critical given how thin the O-line rotation got by season's end.
Missing Raphael from the departure list
:(

The transfer OL are very poorly rated on PFF grades, like really bad.
I don't know if it is small sample size or they were forced to play early when not ready and are poised to improve based on experience and such.
so we’ve reached the point where it’s newsworthy that people aren’t leaving the team…
Welcome to the Insufficiently Regulated Transfer Portal era. May its reign be mercifully brief.

All looks reasonably good. What about the kicking game as we obviously need help in that room?
Chase Meyer withdrew his name from the portal and is returning. He was the short distance FG kicker.
I want better kickers

McGough went 5/12 on field goals with a long of 32.
Are we sure we need him?
😳😩 why can’t we have good kickers
No wonder Chase Meyer withdrew his name from the portal today. He thought he was going to lose his job, but saw McGough signing and thought his job is secure.
So we will be white knuckling every kick next year or nah? Tosh, say it ain’t so
