Cal football recruiting lands a commitment from edge Cam Brooks
The Golden Bears are starting to kick into a recruiting groove.
Cal got a huge recruiting gift this weekend when they landed consensus four-star edge Cam Brooks out of Georgia. The Thomas County Central prospect out of Thomasville (Ga.) is a national prospect sought after by multiple bluebloods, so this has to be a jolt to the system of the otherwise quiet recruiting of the Justin Wilcox era.
According to 247Sports, Brooks is ranked the 166th best national prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, the 19th best edge, and the 22nd best prospect out of the state of Georgia. Cal beat out Ohio State, Florida State and Clemson for the early verbal, which Brooks all is planning on taking visits toward this cycle. It’s great to get this early commitment, but as you can imagine this will probably be a pitched battle. Brooks has dozens of offers from plenty of the usual suspects.
Brooks helped lead Thomas County Central to a state championship in 2023 as a sophomore, leading to a plethora of early offers. Brooks racked up 30 tackles, 28 quarterback hurries and 8.5 sacks in his sophomore season. His sophomore highlights are below.
Brooks added four sacks, 20 hurries, and 15 tackles in 2024. You can see his junior tape on Hudl. This is a special talent who will continue to be heavily recruited through the cycle.
Welcome to Cal Cam! Go Bears!
Oooh. His lateral step is an absolute killer move. He comes in slow with a hesi-step and then violently jukes the other way, swims, and is already beyond the hapless lineman who is left blocking thin air. He's the rush-OLB equivalent of Wake Forest's Demon Claiborne, like "oooh, you think you can keep up with me? No, you can't".
Is there a sarcastic font we can use for "committed" going forward?
