Apologize in advance for being a grammar national socialist, but to write Aristotle Thompson "has honed in on one possibility from Arkansas" is wrong. He "homed in" on the prospect (like a homing pigeon). To hone is to sharpen. You could say that "Thompson further honed his skills as a recruiter by homing in on a prospect from Arkansas." ;-)
