Coaches can cut players from a team without cutting players from a team. I'm betting that Wilcox is having year end discussions with players and telling then whether or not they have a future. That opens up scholarships too. Bet you that Wilcox is going to clear out a lot of players.

So far, so good. I'll miss Moore, but I'm just worried about our youth.

Wishing each one the best.

As of yet, not seeing this as a catastrophe. That said, "hey Wilcox, you'd better announce soon who the next OC will be!!"

Longhetto, Coleman, Moore.......Why am I thinking about that scene in Titanic where everyone is rushing to the lifeboats? Wilcox had better announce an OC hire soon or more guys will jump to the portal. Also, Cal has to figure out (and soon) what kind of program it wants to be; Power Five or Division 1-AA. There is no question in my mind that Shaw left the farm because he knows that Stanfurd in it's current form cannot compete in the age of big tv contracts, the transfer portal and NIL agreements. Cal is rapidly approaching the same dilemma.

Coleman is the only big loss here. Longhetto was going to be passed up by Luckhurst. Moore already passed up by Brooks and of course, Ott.

And even with Coleman, there’s something to be said for starting from scratch with a new OL coach, given how much the OL struggled with basic fundamentals. Wish them all the best…

That’s what I’m saying: we’re going to have to hit the portal hard to get new, preferably P12 caliber players. The new coaching hire will hopefully improve two areas where Angus struggled: 1. blocking scheme and 2. technique.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised to see these names. In another words, not seeing certain names.

But in the Titanic there was a LIMIT to how many playe......passengers could jump ship.....

So Plummer gets left behind?

Same situation here... you can't lose more players than are on the roster... though something tells me it will end up feeling like we did...

When this kid is in his 30sc and 40s, he'll know how much he threw away. Good luck at East Nowhere Tech trying to get a job when he could have graduated from the #1 Public University in the world.

There are a plenty of people enjoying nice jobs without a degree from Berkeley.

Dude, shut up. He's a young man doing what's best for him. He was huge for us at critical points in 2020–21. In another universe (fewer injuries, no Ott) this guy would be our starter.

He's going to land on his feet, and most of us (except for jerks like you) will be cheering for him the whole way.

Yes, it is a shame that he lives in this universe.

Best of luck to Moore. To me this suggests he thinks Ott is likely to stay.

Expand full comment

I like that logic.

Cal really now better hope Ott doesn't jump into the portal.

Expand full comment

Well the good thing is he never jumped into the portal as soon as it opened up as many people had feared.

The teams I'm worried about him going to are still playing football.

Indeed..... one of which he was previously committed to.....

I thought the portal doesn’t open until Monday, December 5th. I am sure Ott and others are waiting to see who our new OC and OL coach will be before making a final decision.

Expand full comment

Yeah the portal doesn’t technically open until Monday.

Speaking of the portal, did the DBD enter the portal today?

Expand full comment

I found it in Community tab.

Yeah I guess that if Wilcox didn't fire Musgrave, then Ott might have announced his intentions to transfer already.

Expand full comment

That could just mean the contract negotiations with multiple options are complex enough to require some time to sort out.

Wishing him the best and that he lands somewhere that gives him snaps.

Damn really liked Moore. Good luck dude!

This is a big loss. Moore is a great runner and was really good in 2021. Due to musgraves shortcomings there were simply not enough touches to go around.

Expand full comment

This is only a big loss if Ott leaves. Moore was basically our 3rd string RB who seemed to have lost confidence at Cal and had fumble issues.

I wish him well at his next stop because he does have talent. Hopefully he can get his confidence back and win the starting job at his next school.

Only if our top 2 RBs leave. Brooks has passed him up and has more upside.
