Cal football transfer portal commit: Jayden Wayne, Washington edge rusher
The California Golden Bears keep landing major commitments!
The California Golden Bears need edge pressure with Xavier Carlton and David Reese out of eligibility. They have found one such talent in defender Jayden Wayne, who made his commitment Monday night.
Wayne played mostly in backup snaps in 11 games for Washington in 2024, finishing with six tackles and one pass defended. In eight contests as a true freshman with Miami, he finished with 13 tackles and 0.5 sacks. Coming out of the IMG Academy, Wayne ranked as a four-star prospect and the 104th best prospect in the 2023 recruiting class by 247Sports Composite. Wayne joins Notre Dame transfer Tyson Ford as the two big defensive line transfers so far in this class.
Wayne was on very talented depth charts at Washington and Miami, so it was definitely tougher to find a place for him to breakthrough. There should be an immediate opportunity to play for Cal. Expect Wayne to compete with Ryan McCulloch, Chiekh Fall, Serigne Tounkara, Nate Burrell and Derek Wilkins to create pressure on the outside.
Welcome to Cal Jayden! Go Bears!
This is great news!
Hope this improves the Bears pressure on QB's which has been lacking especially on 3Rd and long.
