Cal Men's Basketball Head Coach Mark Madsen to Miss Vanderbilt Game
Associate head coach Adam Mazarei will coach the Golden Bears against Vandy
The California Golden Bears (2-0) will be without head coach Mark Madsen when they play the Vanderbilt Commodores (2-0), according to a press release distributed by Cal Athletics early Wednesday evening.
Coach Madsen will miss the Cal v. Vanderbilt game on Nov. 13, 2024, for personal reasons. According to Cal Athletics, he and his wife celebrated the healthy birth of their fifth child earlier this week.
Adam Mazarei, the associate head coach, will step up as interim head coach of the Golden Bears against the Commodores.
Mazarei was most recently Vanderbilt’s assistant coach from 2019 to 2022. He was promoted to associate head coach of the Commodores in 2022 before joining Cal’s coaching staff in April 2023. Under Mazarei’s leadership, Vandy made it to the National Invitational Tournament in the 2021 and 2022 post-season and had 22 wins in the 2022-2023 men’s basketball season.
With the birth of their fifth child, Madsen and his wife now have a starting lineup.
