Go Bears! I'm so glad to see this team enjoy playing together and play some great defense and smart ball. I can root for this team, gladly. My son asked about us losing Bradley, and I said sometimes it is addition by subtraction. Hard to say why we are better this year, but Shepherd is good, and the true freshman are good, and Kelly is better. This is on Fox. Good job coach.
Was great to be at the game. The game was a win win for me going to Santa Clara, and as Nick alluded to, we had no starting center nor backup center so Kelly was fortunate to go against our 6'10 PF, who got dominated. Santa Clara controlled the up tempo pace in the first half, hence the 10 point lead. Then Cal slowed it all down and mucked it up and Santa Clara folded (as per usual this team doesn't like physicality and has little mental fortitude). PJ Pipes, the PG for SCU is an all or nothing type of player, and today Joel Brown forced him into nothing. Fox throwing 3 long defenders at Jalen Williams was also smart. Cal's grittiness and smarts won them this game.
Shepherd and Kelly are doing some nice combo play. Nice to give Shepherd a way to contribute offensively when his shot isn't falling. And Alajiki has been a revelation. I noticed him do a neat little move where he took out a would-be screener and still got back to challenge the shot. Wonder if he'll be starting later in the year?
Just frustrating when the team has long stretches where they can't get shots to drop despite good looks. It's like bricks are contagious.
This is where we miss Matty the most . . . people decry ISO but sometimes you need to be able to hand it to someone and have them go get a bucket. Shapard is a downgrade in that regards.
Alajiki is a baller with an NBA/NFL body...he should absolutely be starting...he gives you more than Kuany, and he’s a legit threat from 3 that plays D.
Just wait til Sam starts to develop a mid-range game...talk about a revelation....
Great game by the Bears. I'm beginning to think that we might have better than a .500 record this season.
Even .500 would be something, especially if Lars continues to develop...Kuany needs to take a step...Alajiki & Obinna - they just need playing time.
For program stability, I'd love to see DJ start getting some run by January, steady minutes set him up to be a presence in the post next year....
It doesn’t hurt that outside ucla, usc, and Arizona, the pac 12 is pretty epically bad. The 4th spot is pretty wide open. Why not Cal?
